10. Words Around "Hin" in the Old Testament Hebrew Lexicon
Having found such an amazing commentary by looking at the words before
and after "Hinckley" in the English language, I became curious as to what I
might find by looking up his name in the Hebrew.
The primary tools, as far as books, that I have been using in studying the Hebrew are, so
far as I can tell, the standards for that purpose. The first is Strong's Concordance of
the Bible, which enables someone, such as me, who does not know Hebrew, to look up a word
in English and then find the Hebrew equivalent, depending on which verse of the Bible it
is used. For words from the Old Testament, that number then enables me to look up the
Hebrew word in Gesenius' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon, which provides a dictionary-like
definition of that word -- in English.
This is actually backward logic, which reminds me of a Japanese roommate who told me
how surprised he was to find that we have McDonald's in America too. The Old Testament was
written in Hebrew, and the New Testament was originally written in Greek. Strong merely
enables us English-speakers to take our King James Bible English and find out what the
original(29) word was.
Like in the English, the word Hinckley does not itself occur in the Hebrew. But it is the
words before and after that we are interested in anyway, in this approach. By curious
coincident, the word immediately before "Hinckley," alphabetically, in English(30), happens to be a Hebrew word:
hin (), a Hebrew measure.
Increasing the strangeness of that coincidence, an English meaning of a word by that
same spelling is:
hin: pron., 3d pers. sing. Him. Obs. exc.
Dial.(31)
Like with the word "him" in English, the words before and after
"hin" in Hebrew have strong relevance to the theme of the Anti-Christ and his
antithesis.
The following lists the words in the sequence given by Gesenius. His alphabetical
scheme varies somewhat from Strong's, so the numbers (assigned by Strong and used widely
as a standard reference) will not always come in sequence. The definitions below will
maintain the italicizing and capitalization given by Gesenius. Any exceptions will be
noted. The Hebrew vowel points will not be given here.(32)
(When more than one word has the same letters, chances are, they will have different vowel
points.)
First, to give you an idea of how applicable these words are to the subject at hand,
here is an overview: a summary listing. These words of the Old Testament lexicon in their
alphabetic sequence read almost like a chronological prophecy, specifically that one
mentioned in II Thes. 2

Words Surrounding hin (With
Commentary)
And now, here is this same list, non-abbreviated, along with lengthier
commentary, usually in the form of pertinent scripture citations after each word and
definition. Again, "(-)" refers to the anti-Christ, and "(+)" refers
to his antithesis.
1959 joyful acclamation, rejoicing -- (a)
of vintage gatherers and wine-press treaders. -- (b) of soldiers going to battle;
Isa. 16:9,10, where the two senses are put in opposition.
[Though of another context, that last phrase, "where the two senses
are put in opposition," is a curious one considering the topic at hand. Such plays on
words are a common and sometimes very enlightening feature in this method of looking at
words before and after a key word.]
"Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated
you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be
glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed." (Isa. 66:5.)
1960 praises, songs [to whom?]
"They have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their
abominations." (Isa. 66:3.)
"Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall
hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the
Holy Ghost. Wo be unto the Gentiles, saith the Lord God of Hosts! For notwithstanding I
shall lengthen out mine arm unto them from day to day, they will deny me." (2 Ne.
28:31,32.)
1961 to be, to exist
(-) "For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy
wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I
am, and none else beside me." (Isa. 47:10.) "Who opposeth and exalteth
himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in
the temple of God, showing himself that he is God." (2 Thes. 2:4.)
(+) "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM." (Exo. 3:14.)
1962 destruction
"And then shall that wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the
spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming." (JST-2
Thes. 2:8.)
1963* how?(33) 1
Ch. 13:12; Dan. 10:17.
[These two verses given by Gesenius are the only places in the Bible that utilize this
particular Hebrew word for "how?" Readers with a deep LDS background will
immediately recognize the significance and applicability of the first of these two
scriptures. It links to D&C 85:7,8,(34) which is
probably the most specific prophecy in Mormon writ about the subject at hand. The second
replies to the question of the first, and intimates the nature or identity of the
antithesis of the anti-Christ.]
(1 Chronicles 13:12) "And...Uzza put forth his hand to hold [steady] the ark; for
the *oxen(35) stumbled. And the anger of the
LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and
there he died before God. And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach
upon Uzza. And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I
bring the ark of God home to me?" (1 Chr. 13:9-12.)
(Daniel 10:17) "O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have
retained no strength. For how can the servant of this my lord talk with
this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is
there breath left in me. Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a
man, and he strengthened me, and said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto
thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and
said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. Then said he, ...I will show thee
that which is noted in the scripture of truth: And there is none(36)
that holdeth with me in these things, but *Michael(37)
your prince(38)." (Dan. 10:16-21.)
unused root to be great, lofty
[Throughout his Lexicon, perhaps on every other page, Gesenius lists the unused roots
from which various Hebrew words are derived. However, in this particular context, this
"unused root" becomes an astonishing play on words, considering the scripture,
"The servant said unto his master: Is it not the loftiness of thy vineyard--have not
the branches thereof overcome the roots which are good? And because the branches have
overcome the roots thereof, behold they grew faster than the strength of the roots,
taking strength unto themselves. Behold, I say, is not this the cause that the trees of
thy vineyard have become corrupted?" (Jacob 5:48.)
"Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch
of the high cedar, and will set it [cut it off]; I will crop off from the top of his young
twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:
in the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs,
and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in
the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. And all the trees of the field shall
know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted
the low tree." (Ezk. 17:22-24.)
1964 (to be capacious, spacious) (1) a large and
magnificent building, a palace. (2) "the place of Jehovah," an appellation
of the temple at Jerusalem; poet. also heaven. (3) a part of the temple
at Jerusalem... the holy of holies.
"I saw and bear record, that the great and spacious building was the pride
of the world; and it fell, and the fall thereof was exceedingly great." (1 Ne. 11:36;
also 12:18.)
"Solomon built him an house. Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in
temples made with hands; as saith the prophet," (Acts 7:47,48.)
"Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool:
what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my
rest? Hath not my hand made all these things [heaven & earth]?" (Acts 7:49,50 =
Isa. 66:1.)
[See also Acts 17:24-31.](39)
1965 (1) the palace of a king. (2) a temple.
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for there shall come a falling away first,
and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself
above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the
temple of God, showing himself that he is God." (2 Thes. 2:3,4.)
1966 bright star, i.e. Lucifer.
"The Lord, even Jesus'. . . coming is not until after there cometh a falling away,
by the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and
with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not
the love of the truth, that they might be saved." (JST-2 Thes. 2:9,10.)
see 1949 "make a commotion"
"A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice
of the LORD that rendereth recompense to his enemies. Before she travailed,
she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.
"Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made
to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed,
she brought forth her children." (Isa. 66:6-8.)
1967; see 1950 "destruction"
"For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a
whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For
by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the
LORD shall be many." (Isa. 66:15,16.)
"Wherefore, he will preserve the righteous by his power, even if it so be that the
fulness of his wrath must come, and the righteous be preserved, even unto the destruction
of their enemies by fire. Wherefore, the righteous need not fear; for thus saith
the prophet, they shall be saved, even if it so be as by fire." (1 Ne. 22:17.)
1968 (Ch. and Syr. faithful)
(+) "But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you,
brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation
through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: whereunto he called you by
our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Thes.
2:13,14.)
(+) "To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit,
and trembleth at my word." (Isa. 66:2.)
1969 a hin, a measure of liquids containing (...i.e. twelve
[apostle] Roman sectarri). Its etymology is doubtful. It may be derived from as being a
light, small measure. (This corresponds to the Egyptian hn, hno, which
signifies prop. vessel.)
[With a play on words:]
"And if thine eye which seeth for thee, him that is appointed to watch over thee
to show thee light, become a transgressor and offend thee, pluck him out." (JST-Mark
9:46.)
"And then shall a cry go forth: Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch
not that which is unclean; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean that bear the
vessels of the Lord." (3 Ne. 20:41 = Isa. 52:11.)
** "Hinckley" [alphabetical placement in Hebrew]
"Thine eye which seeth for thee, him that is appointed to watch over thee to show
thee light." (JST-Mark 9:46.)
see 3588 under (B) (1) (a), p. 191 "is it so that?"
[Here Gesenius makes an inadvertent yet serendipitous mistake. "p. 191"
should read, "p. 391." It turns out that p. 191 is where the word, David
occurs. (See Ezek. 34:23; and Ezek. 37:24.)(40)]
"Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these
things?" (2 Thes. 2:5.)
1970 to be stupefied, to be stunned, admiration, or, most
vehement admiration. (To injure, to litigate pertinaciously; whence in Job
1.c. shameless ye injure me.)
"Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our
gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled."
(2 Thes. 2:1,2.)
"It shall come to pass that kings shall shut their mouths; for
that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall
they consider. For in that day, for my sake shall the Father work a work, which shall be a
great and a marvelous work among them; and there shall be among them those who will not
believe it, although a man shall declare it unto them. But behold, the life of my servant
shall be in my hand; therefore they shall not hurt him, although he shall be marred
because of them. Yet I will heal him, for I will show unto them that my wisdom is greater
than the cunning of the devil." (3 Ne. 21:8-10.)
1971 a knowing, taking knowledge of ("a beholding");
Isa. 3:9, "the knowledge of their countenance," [(-)] i.e. what may be known by
their faces, what they manifestly shew ("the beholding of their person, i.e.
respect of person, partiality in a judge).
(+) "...And a branch shall grow out of his roots: and the spirit of the LORD shall
rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; and shall make him of quick
understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the
sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears." (Isa.
11:1-3.)
(-) "And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in
his time.
"And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they
should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had
pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thes. 2:6,11,12.)
see 1973 (2) A particle of interrogation.
(+) "But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove
with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his
mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked." (Isa. 11:4.)
(-) "And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time."
(2 Thes. 2:5.)
1972 to remove, or to be removed.
"For the mystery of iniquity doth already work, and he it is who now worketh, and
Christ suffereth him to work, until the time is fulfilled that he shall be taken
out of the way." (JST-2 Thes. 2:7.)
1973 distance, remoteness; far off, farther.
(+) "Many shall come from the east and west, and
shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven." (Matt.
8:11.)
(-) "But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness:
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matt. 8:12.)
1974 from ("praises (of God)"), festival days,
celebrated on account of the finished harvest, public thanksgiving.
(+) "Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with
her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her. And when
ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like
an herb: and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation
toward his enemies." (Isa. 66:10,14.)
(+) "Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved
us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort
your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work." (2 Thes. 2:16,17; also
Isa. 66:11-13.)

I suppose that there is not another section of the entire Lexicon that contains such a
tight cluster of word definitions that tie in so strongly to the themes of 2nd
Thes. 2 and Isa. 66. Virtually every verse of 2nd Thes. 2 and Isa. 66:1-16 is
directly accounted for by these definitions.
Words Around "Hind" in English
The word after "Hinckley" in English is "hind."
Looking up "hind" in Hebrew yields yet another witness to the above. Recall the
following sequence of words from above which came just before and after
"Hinckley"
1969 hin
---> Hinckley
1970 to be stupefied, to be stunned, most vehement admiration.
Words with related meaning follow "hind" too.
365 hind
unusd root to frighten; to stupify.
366 terrible, formidable.
367 (1) terror. Pro. 20:2, "terror of a king." (2) idols.
Though kings and priests may inflict their terror for a season, the time is coming when
they will have their turn to shut their mouths, "for that which had not been told
them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider." (3 Ne.
21:8 = Isa. 52:15.)
Another Hebrew Spelling
Another way to spell "Hinckley" in Hebrew is without the yod
after the first heh: . This spelling falls in between the Hebrew Lexicon words
#2010 () and #2011 (). The definition for word 2010, "rest," epitomizes
the gift of tranquility which the gospel brings, both individually as well as for an
entire people, when they will finally build on the rock of Christ. In stark contrast to
this, for word #2011, Gesenius refers to #1516 under (a), which provides
the following explanation:
(a) - (the valley of the son of Hinnom), to the south and east (west?) of Jerusalem,
through which ran the southern boundary of Benjamin, and the northern of Judah, remarkable
for the human sacrifices offered to Moloch.
{Comment about this allusion needing at least a second or third witness, that alone it
is wholly insufficient to secure a verdict of any kind.}
In the coming days of the Lord's harvest, with its reaping of the righteous and
vengeance on the wicked, those who have silenced the righteous will themselves be
silenced.
2012 Hena, pr. n. of a city of Mesopotamia, the same
apparently as was afterwards called Ana. [ana in English:
"The sayings of notable or eminent men."]
2013 be silent! silence! an onomatopoetic expression for commanding
silence; Zeph. 1:7.
Zephaniah 1:7 reads, "Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day
of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his
guests." The sacrifice that God desires us to bring to the altar is to come forth
with a broken heart and contrite spirit, which if we do, he will baptize us with fire and
with the Holy Ghost, rendering a mighty change of heart. Appropriate both to the mighty
change, whereby we establish ourselves upon the rock of Christ, as well as to the mighty
change that will be transpiring in the world in general as the kingdoms of this world
become the kingdom of our God and His Christ, a word two down has the meaning:
2015 (1) to turn, to turn oneself, to turn back, to flee
[from iniquity]; (2) to overturn, to overthrow (as cities) ["I will
overturn, overturn, overturn"]; (3) to turn, to convert, to change; to be changed.
The next word, with the same letters, means,
2016 the reverse, i.e. the contrary.
Appropriately, the next word, still with the same letters, doctrinally has the reverse,
or contrary meaning to those listed above for 2015.
2017 perverseness, folly, Isa. 29:16.
In further contrast, the word prior to 2015 is
2014 remission, cessation.
Remission of sins and cessation of sin are indeed interlinked facets of salvation. In
"overturning" (2018) that which is "crooked, twisted"
(2019), there is need of "escape, liberation" (2020); by which we
become "strong, fortified" (unused root), established upon the rock of
Christ: "a mountain; a mountain tract of country; the mountainous district
of Ephraim; the mount of God, a name of (a) Sinai, as the abode of Jehovah; (b) Zion,
often called also the holy mountain of God; (d) the holy land, as being
mountainous" (2022).

Endnotes
29. 29 "Original" must be
qualified, referring to those aged manuscripts of earliest date available to the
translators of the Bible.
30. 30 1971 Webster's.
31. 31 1959 Webster's.
32. 32 Those who know Hebrew well enough to appreciate
vowel points will more than likely have a Lexicon or dictionary they can consult.
33. 33 There are several words for "how" in
Hebrew. The one used most often is #4100, which is the Hebrew letter mem, which
represents the hidden Messiah. Another word for "how" is #3588, which also
happens to be the word referred to by Gesenius immediately following the insertion point
of "Hinckley."
34. 34 "And it shall come to pass that I, the Lord
God, will send one mighty and strong, holding the scepter of power in his hand, clothed
with light for a covering, whose mouth shall utter words, eternal words; while his bowels
shall be a fountain of truth, to set in order the house of God, and to arrange by lot the
inheritances of the saints whose names are found, and the names of their fathers, and of
their children, enrolled in the book of the law of God;
"While that man, who was called of God and appointed, that putteth forth his hand
to steady the ark of God, shall fall by the shaft of death, like as a tree that is smitten
by the vivid shaft of lightning.
"And all they who are not found written in the book of remembrance shall find none
inheritance in that day, but they shall be cut asunder, and their portion shall be
appointed them among unbelievers, where are wailing and gnashing of teeth." (D&C
85:7-9.)
35. 35 "Oxen," is one of the hallmark meanings
of aleph in Hebrew. The Rabbis say that to define Aleph is to define God. Might
this context provide a hint?
36. 36 "I also will choose their delusions, and
will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake,
they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted
not." (Isa. 66:4.) Link D&C 113:66,67, "...when I called again there was
none to answer."
37. 37 "There was a certain householder,
which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and
built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
"...When the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir;
come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. When the lord therefore
of the vineyard [Father of the Son] cometh, what will he do unto those
husbandmen?" (Matt. 21:33,38,40.)
38. 38 Compare wording: "And my servant David shall
be their prince for ever." Ezek. 37:25; 34:24.
39. 39 "God that made the world and all things
therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with
hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he
giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; and hath made of one blood all nations of
men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before
appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek the Lord, if haply
they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: for in
him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said,
For we are also his offspring.
"Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the
Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. And the
times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by
that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he
hath raised him from the dead." (Acts 17:24-31.)
40. 40 "Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds;
Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed
the flocks? I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding
the flock; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my
flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. For thus saith the Lord GOD;
Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. Therefore will I save my
flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and cattle. And I
will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David;
he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. And I the LORD will be their God, and
my servant David a prince among them. And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and
will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely."
(Ezek. 34:2,10,11,22-25.)
