bullet 8. Words Around "Him" in English

"He it is who now worketh."

--JST-II Thessalonians 2:7

Having found some amazing things by looking up various words, including names of people I knew, and looking at the words before and after them, I decided one day (6/22/96) to see what I might find upon looking up the name of the president of the Mormon Church.

See if these words and definitions(26) do not have anything to do with the Isaiah 66 / 2nd Thes. ii / D&C 85 etc. scenario in which the anti-Christ arises and then is removed. Following each word are two editorial additions, one of which (-) indicates the Anti-Christ, and the other (+) his antithesis.

The next three words come as a set which depict this process just employed of looking at words of language in order to unfold crucial understandings. The words following that continue the theme in almost parody fashion. The play on words is both applicable and approaching humorous, although the subject is most grave.

Hindustani: A language of Hindustan, akin to Sanskrit, but having a large admixture of Persian and Arabic words.

hinge: The hook or joint on which a door, gate, and the like turns [come ye in at the straight gate]; fig. that on which anything depends or turns; a governing principle, rule, or point.

hint: A word or two suggesting or insinuating something; to suggest indirectly; to make some reference or allusion that may or may not be apprehended.

hinterland: The outlying region, remote from any towns.

"Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him." (Isa. 53:1,2.)

hip:  -- To have a person on the hip, to have the advantage over him; to have got some catch on him. -- To smite hip and thigh, to overthrow completely with great slaughter.

hip: hipped, Rendered melancholy.

hippocras: -- Hippocratic oath, pledge to a code of ethics.

"Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David." (Isaiah 55:3.)

Hippocrene: Fountain on Helicon; source of poetic inspiration.

"Wherefore, I, Moroni, am commanded to write these things that evil may be done away, and that the time may come that Satan may have no power upon the hearts of the children of men, but that they may be persuaded to do good continually, that they may come unto the fountain of all righteousness and be saved." (Ether 8:26.)

For what it is worth, the preceding list of 33 words take six columns of text in this dictionary we have had lying around the house. The column before, which starts the page, begins with several words beginning with hexa.., from the Greek root meaning, "six." [I think of 666.] One of those words is hexapla, which means, "An edition of the Holy Scriptures in six languages or six versions in parallel columns."

27. 27 "Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. Schopenhauer
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
