What makes the American Study Group distinct from other freedom-related organizations (whose place we have no intention of taking) is that we focus our study on what prophets of God, ancient and modern, have said about issues relating to the freedom fight. We feel that the word of God should be the guiding tool in helping us to understand the world around us and to be able to respond appropriately.

All meetings are open to the public. Because our specialty is to focus on statements of the prophets, we do have a strong LDS bend. However, we try to structure our line-up of topics so that the presentation every other week has a non-denominational slant. There are no membership fees.

We study such topics as: "Isaiah and the Soviet Union," "The Federal Reserve and our Fiat Money System," "Love Your Enemies; Peace Amidst Political Persecution," "Types and Shadows in the Book of Mormon about the 144,000," "Godless Schools Produce Godless Nations," "Abrahamic Covenant -- A Centerpiece of Prophecy," "New Age Agenda for the New World Order," "The Great and Marvelous Work Yet to Come Forth," "The Seven Great Fundamental Principles of the Constitution," "Occult Origins and Tendencies Within the Environmental Movement," "Political Parties and the Principles of the Constitution," "How/Why Home Schooling," "Zion -- In Time and Eternity," "The Book of Mormon is Also the Keystone of the Freedom Fight."

Along with providing an educational forum, we also promote action, whether it be encouraging people to take advantage of a emergency preparedness sale, or attend an abortion hearing at the capital. We have participated in several victories as we have coordinated our efforts closely with other like-minded organizations that share the same goals.

The American Study Group began in Provo on August 9, 1990. After four months or so, people began attending the Provo group from as far away as Layton. In January we began branching out to other regions. From that time, the group has mushroomed. Apparently, we are filling a void felt by many who recognize the need to study the words of ancient and modern prophets pertaining to political events now unfolding before us almost as a whirlwind. Those who attend our meetings are generally humble folk, students of the scriptures, devotees of the living prophet, awakened individuals who long to associate with others who share their concerns, people quietly preparing for the coming calamities, hopeful souls who wish to be prepared for Christ's millennial reign.
