ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Much time and effort went into producing this manuscript, and a substantial portion of that came through the valuable assistance of family and friends. They are to be extended the warmest appreciation. If I were to attempt to list them all, the list would be lengthy, and I fear that someone who made a valuable contribution might be accidentally omitted.

Still, there are some who must be acknowledged for the extraordinary help they provided. First, my parents -- whose love of the Lord and unyielding dedication to his purposes has been an indelible inspiration in my life -- were with me every step of the way. I couldn't have asked for better support than what they gave. Others of my family also participated in a vital way.

I must also recognize the invaluable editing help of Michele Sorensen, V. Dennis Wardle, and many others. Finally, I express gratitude to my friend David K. Jensen, who not only assisted at crucial times, but whose example and friendship has been so refreshing at this exciting and challenging time of my life.

Schopenhauer
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
   Second, it is violently opposed; and
   Third, it is accepted as self-evident.

-- Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
