The Numic (Sleep) Peoples & The Book of Mormon
Synchronicity of Modern Lehi descendants' (?) name,
"Numic (Sleep)," and the admonition to Book of Mormon forbearers, "Awake
from a deep sleep."

The Book Of Mormon Hebrew?
Shalom!
One wonders, sometimes, how words play into the principle of
synchronicity? I mentioned yesterday how close SHOSHONI seems to
be to SHOMRONI (Samaritan--descendant of Joseph) and PENATEKA
to PENTATEUCHOS (another spelling just found for this tribe is
PIHNATUKHA). Then there is the associating with "honey-eaters."
Today I came across another interesting "synchronicity." In
the BoM we read:
"O that ye would awake! Awake from a deep SLEEP, yea, even
from the SLEEP of hell, and shake off the awful chains by
which ye are bound, which are the chains which bind the
children of men, that they are carried away down to the
eternal gulf of misery and woe." (2 Nephi 1:13)
"And in the morning, the Lord caused a deep SLEEP to come upon
the Lamanites, yea, and all their task-masters were in a
profound SLEEP." (Mosiah 24:19)
"And Moroni had prepared his men with weapons of war; and he
went to the city of Gid, while the Lamanites were in a deep
SLEEP . . ." (Alma 55:16)
In the first scripture, Lehi is giving this admonition to his
sons, Laman and Lemuel, fathers of the Lamanites. He begs them
to awaken from their deep SLEEP. Then the next two quotes we
find are in reference to their descendants and deep SLEEP is used
again in an allegorical way if we consider the first quote, but
also in a real, practical way. What is the significance of this?
As I pointed out, the Indians of the Great Basin I have
identified with the primary descendants of Lehi, or the Shoshoni
nation. This includes the Utes, Paiutes, Bannocks, Comanches,
Chemehuevi, and some other tribes. They are called "Numic
peoples" based on the fact that they call themselves "Numa"
or "Numu," meaning "people" or "human beings." So their language
is called Numic, which is considered to be a branch of Uto-Aztecan.
What caught my attention in reading this was the word "Numa."
In Hebrew, "Numah" (NUN,MEM,HEY) means SLEEP. It is a state of
sleep and drowsiness. Did the name, "Numah," stick with the
Lamanites because of father Lehi's early admonition and the
subsequent history that involved incidents of SLEEP. Or is this
just one of those strange synchronicities which involves no real
linguistic connection? Or is it just a coincident with no real
significance whatsoever? "Manasseh" means "Forgetting." Are
"Numah" and "Manasseh," SLEEP & FORGETTING involved in a real
way here??? Dean.
