Dear Editor
We all grieve because of the tragic school shooting in Littleton, Colorado
in which 25 students were mowed down by two students obsessed with Gothic
culture and Dungeons and Dragons.
What is more tragic is that this is not an isolated incident, but one which
seems to be coming a trend.
What is most tragic is that we continue to foster an environment which
breeds such behavior.
Why can't we wake up and realize the grave consequences of our violent
movies, videos, and music that has become a billion-dollar industry; the
interactive killing, maiming and hexing computer games, which have also become
a billion-dollar industry; and the other mediums of portraying, encouraging,
and instructing in ways of devious sex, violence, and hatred which are
perpetrated by books, magazines, and especially the Internet.
Furthermore, is it any wonder that our schools are becoming a hell on
earth, when we have so completely removed God from the classrooms?
No more can we blithely say that these mediums of influence do not have
their influence. How much worse must it get before we realize what evil these
things propagate?
These we can change. These we must change. Or we will continue to see an
escalation of these acts of horrific carnage and violence to the soul.
The change must not come by way of legislation which attempts to force men
outwardly to behave. The change must come from within as we turn our hearts to
God. Jesus Christ can purify our hearts and remove our disposition to do evil.
Heaven, or hell on earth. It's our choice.
Sincerely,
Sterling D. Allan
