September 5, 1989 Dear Editor, The study of ancient histories reveals that when civilizations have collapsed, secret combinations have lain at the root of their fall. Many of us are aware of this and therefore keep a wary eye out to identify and oppose such clandestine corruption in our day. Indeed, today we find ourselves surrounded by many forms of organized crime and subversion: drug rings, the various Mafias, terrorists, street gangs, and gambling rings--to name a few. One of the tactics of the most sinister secret societies is to keep their identity unknown or suppressed, deceiving the people into believing that no conspiracy exists. We are aware that in the book of Matthew Jesus Christ prophesied that in our day there would rise false Christs that would deceive even some of the very elect. What sort of modern movement could qualily as something that blinds even the most spiritually astute? And who might some of these false Christs be? Might we define a false Christ as someone who proposes an alternate route for salvation'? If so, could we not identify the present advocates of the humanistic movement, that encourages the worship of man rather than God, as false Christs? What about the leftist liberals of the world who propose that the government become god--that the state become supreme? And--for the piercing question--how many righteous individuals are parroting these humanistic or liberal lines and following the flow of their movement rather than opposing it? The fact is that today there is an international conspiracy that engulfs the top ranks of our very own country. Its effect of corrupting mankind dwarfs any of the above-mentioned groups of organized crime, including the drug rings. Its members, direct or indirect, are triumphantly pushing toward the formation of a one-world, socialistic government. Indeed, we don't have to look hard to see that the world is plunging in this direction. They would not identify their own movement as the greatest threat, because their rhetoric professes that it is for our best good. Their superficially innocent motive is to establish world peace and order. But the peace they propose would be imposed, not spontaneous. And that strikes against the principles of freedom and of God, who would have free people choose to live in harmony. No, the drug threat--great though it may be--is far from the greatest threat to our nation; but it sure does act as an effective smoke screen for diverting people's attention.
