Prayer Experience & Another Scripture
After Writing Second Letter to President Clinton

 

Experience on February 27, 1995

After completing my various responsibilities at school, I mailed the second letter to President Clinton, with the watermark picture and superimposed poem framed.

Around 2:00 PM I then drove up to my prayer spot on Mount Lemon.

While walking to the location, I decided to pick one of each of the beautiful flowers that graced the desert mountain side.  By the time I reached my prayer oasis, I had twelve flowers assembled.  I couldn't help but see a symbolism in this for the twelve tribes of Israel, and I placed the twelve flowers atop the copy of the picture and poem

Before praying, I read through the letter I had written to Lily, summarizing the events of the past many days of focus on behalf of President Clinton.

My heart filled with love and faith as I viewed the photo of President Clinton.  He really had been touched by the Spirit of God that President's Day when I spend the day praying for him.

As I knelt and prayed, my voice was filled with confidence as I expressed gratitude for the change that had come upon the President.  I prayed for continued protection for him that he might be shielded from those influences that would seek to keep him where he was before.  I even put in a word for Hillary, that she too might even be touched.  I prayed that if it be the will of God that when the President received my offering that it might act as a catalyst to turn his heart -- that he would be born of God, filled with the love of God, that his change would work a mighty miracle in bringing many millions to God, even as the conversion of King Lamoni in the Book of Mormon was effective in turning so many of his people to God, that they were born of God, even as he had been.

When I was done praying, I picked up my scriptures and let them fall open where they may.  My eye caught the following passage on the opened page:

    7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
    8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
    9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
    10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.  (Jonah 3:7-10.)

Whether or not the prayer would have the effect for which I prayed, I felt very peaceful about what I had done, and that somehow it would be for good.
