Doc,

In answer to your question,

My take on multiple mortal probations probably stretches the limits of believability to anyone lingering close to mainstream LDS teachings on the subject.

I believe that we have oodles (that means lots and lots) of mortal experiences as human beings (like you suggested); and that yes, eventually we finally get things right and graduate to Godhood.  And even then we still take the opportunity to put off our exaltation and come down in the flesh to help the children of men progress (and maybe just to have fun while doing it).

Whether we have multiple experiences on one planet, I do not know -- probably, but not many.  It seems  the more advanced one becomes, the less frequently they come down.

Where I go beyond this is to say that our experiences started as "Atom" (pronounced like "Adam").  We went from one experience to another, increasing in intelligence and depth of character. Progressing beyond existence as a mineral, we experienced the plant kingdom, progressing through the various forms of life there, through the insect kingdom, through the animal kingdom, even spending time as an intelligence of a planet or a sun or a moon, etc.  -- sort of a spiritual Darwinism.

So that by the time we become God, we can say that we are "in all things and through all things" because WE WILL HAVE BEEN ALL THINGS.

Included in that progression would be "time-out" probations following sons of perdition episodes (so that yes, even the sons of perdition do not always, forever and ever, stay in that condition, but they too can be "recycled").

So eventually, however long it takes, however fast or slow, purely dependent upon the agency of the intelligence, all things will eventually graduate to Godhood.

What then?  What comes after that?  After the tipity top level of Godhood?

My take is that the Supreme Being willingly goes through a sort of cross between a "big bang" and a disintegration into a gazillion minute particles called "intelligences," all of which are part of the original God-being, and which in some undefinable way are still a part of it, but which now are new creations, each one of which is independent -- the new intelligences which then progress from the simplest form to the most advanced.

That is why all things are equal in the sight of God, for all things both came from God and will eventually become God -- whatever stage of development they are at currently.

So much more could be said, but already I'm speaking far outside the realm of knowledge and into the realm of casual conjecture.

You asked.

That's my opinion.

HOWDY...

Looking at Alma 40....he sure hints alot at the idea of multiple mortal probations. For years I've been hit with the idea of part of one's experience of becoming one of the Gods was to be in certain positions like the prophet....the HG.....a Savior.....

I would think our Heavenly Father wants all of us to be back with him when it's all said and done. If one smart kid can get a college degree when he's 16....the average when he's 22 or so.....but then there are the slow ones that take until they are 30......they all take different times to get to their goal but they all get there. You grow and you learn. But if you learn and pass the test...you get the reward.

Part of this thinking takes me in another direction to the OT when it talks in Genesis about in those days their where giants on the earth.....which translates the sons of God or Nephilium. I always wondered who these embodied persons were and the learnng they had that gave them advantage over the men of earth. I think they must be those who have crossed the line of their kingdom ie: telestial or terrestial and came to earth somehow to mix with the daughters of Adam and Eve.

The early GA's also give hints as to multiple mortal probations.
