New Baby

bullet  Essay

As my wife and I prepare to have our first child, expecting December 10th, learning in advance about the various rigors of childbirth so as to be prepared for that glorious event, my mind has been called into reflection upon the allegories that can be drawn between the birthing process and the prophesied birthing of Zion.

Several insights have come this morning in this regard which I would like to share.

It began early this morning with the insight that when a mother approaches transition and then enters the second stage of labor of pushing out the baby, she looses her appetite, discontinues eating, and her body must call upon the reserves she has stored prior to labor.

So also will it be with the mother church bringing forth the man child kingdom of God.  Hence the prophecies of famine during the tribulations.

Considering this metaphor, I would say that we have been in the early first stage of labor for some time now, affectionately called the "putsy putsy" stage.  Intense labor will follow soon.

First stage labor has essential three phases.  Putsy putsy, intense labor, and transition.

In the "putsy putsy" stage the contractions have begun, but the mother is able to walk about, and she is in a relatively pleasant mood.  Dr. Bradley, who authored the book (and method), "Husband Coached Childbirth," compares this phase to the foothills prior to climbing a mountain.  This can last for as long as a couple of days in some cases.  Sometimes it comes and goes.  When women morosely brag about having been in labor for 70 some hours, they are including this time.  In some cases it can come and go for almost a week.

In our analogy, I believe that this is where we are now.  We have been in the putsy putsy stage for some time now.  There have been several events which, like contractions, have stirred us into thinking the baby is coming any moment now.  For example, the slew of Mormon excommunications in the early '90s was one such "contraction."  The brink of economic collapse last October and flirting with it again this October could also be thought of as early "contractions."  The brink of war with the Russians with the Kosovo crisis earlier this year was another "contraction."  The Y2K preparedness panic that reached a crescendo this last Spring was another "contraction."

The middle phase of first stage labor is where the contractions become increasingly more intense.  This is serious labor, and does not last nearly as long as the early phase.  It's time to call the midwife.  The mother is not going to be inclined to joke around or go on any walks.  Rather, she lays down and gets in the most comfortable "sleep" position so as to be able to concentrate on relaxing so that all the energy can go to the contractions.

This phase is what I believe prophecy refers to as the three-and-one-half year tribulation that will befall the saints.  In addition to natural disasters, we anticipate political disarray, economic collapse, rioting gangs, marauding bands, Marshall law, nuclear blasts, biological weapons, occupying forces, mark of the beast, concentration camps, surviving in the wilderness.

Gayle Smith is one of several who have seen these events in vision, confirming and elaborating upon what the scriptures describe on the subject.  Her prophesies are probably the most well known among the Mormon remnant.

Following the economic collapse which is triggered by a number of things but finally by a tremendous political upheaval, she sees two successive earthquakes in the Wasatch front.  The first is a warning, the second causes sizeable damage and carnage.

In the birth analogy, this landmark event could be compared to the "bloody show" in which the cervical plug comes out.

Ideally, the bag of waters remains in tact well through first stage labor, as it cushions the mother and child and reduces the pressure pain.  Ideally, the water breaks in the later end of this second phase of first stage labor, setting further in motion the hard contractions which bring full dilation.

In the analogy, could this symbolize the cataclysmic return of Lake Bonneville  from the underground aquifers during the third of the series of four or so huge earthquakes prophesied to happen along the Wasatch Front?

The last phase, the peak of first stage labor, is when the cervix reaches full, and extremely painful dilation.  This is called "transition."  Dr. Bradley compares it to the steepest climb of the mountain just before the peak, where full concentration is required, where the perils are the greatest, where the most exertion is required.

It is in this stage that the mother is apt to get frightenly angry at the husband, saying things she would never say at other times.  She feels like she cannot make it and is desperate for any intervention.  If in a hospital (analogous in our metaphor to the safety net of the New World Order beast), the most prepared of mothers might call for drugs as this point.  The unprepared mothers have long since been doped up.

In the analogy, this is when the Church mars the Davidic Servant.  It is comparable to the transition at the time of the Jews, when they crucified Jesus Christ, marking the end of one era and the beginning of another.  The kingdom was transferred from the Mother Jewish institution to Christianity, which emerged at that point.  In our day, the kingdom will be transferred from the Mormons/Gentiles to the Remnant church of the firstborn.

The baby crowning is allegorical to the crowning events that are prophesied to transpire at Adam On Diaman.  In the First Coming analogy, this would be comparable to the Day of Pentecost.

The pushing stage is when the Remnant Saints go to the New Jerusalem in a difficult but triumphant march as the mother expels the baby.

The umbilical cord is yet pumping and should be kept in tact for a few minutes until it stops pulsating.  The new baby is adjusting to breathing on its own for the first time.  This is the phase of the church of God being set in order and the inheritances of the saints being arranged by the casting of lots.

The purged wife nursing the baby symbolizes the Josephian Ephraimites who assist in building the New Jerusalem, who crown with glory the gathering tribes of Israel, fulfilling the scripture, "Their kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers."

Zion has been born.

Very interesting thought.  I suppose you mean by this the institution, not the gospel, for we all know that they are not one and the same.

While the baby is in the womb, the placenta acts as the go-between.  After birth the placenta is sloughed off, and the baby goes direct to mom.

That analogy seems very insightful Sterling.  The details seem to fit!
Thanks for sharing it and good luck with the birth of your baby!

Schopenhauer
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
