Subject: Re: (H. Verlan Andersen): Apostasy of the Latter Days

Dear Sterling,

Addressing your post to Greaterthings about H. Verlan Anderson. I believe since the church has come under the IRS gag order, they are no longer willing or able to endorse anyone who speaks for the Constitution, or at least not in very loud terms. I guess that's why we never hear much about H. Verlan Anderson any more, nor writings of Pres. Benson.

It's interesting to note the H. Verlan was emeretized, and later, when he died, he barely rated a write up in the Ensign. I believe the Church has been infiltrated by those who are making sure we don't speak out on important issues like liberty and the Constitution.

To speak of the constitution, ever since the Utah area South purge of '93-'94, is not popular. People now think it is something we should not discuss at church, and if they do, it is in hush hush voices, looking over their shoulder to make sure no one listening in who will report them to higher authorities. The mindthink these days seems to be that if a general authority doesn't speak out "for" the Constitution, then we mustn't either. After all, we are told, in so many words, that all is well in Zion, so why should we be concerned about the Constitution. It's suspect to be "too" patriotic, in terms of defending truth and righteousness in govt.

Years ago, I was friends with one of H. Verlan's grand daughters, who lived in Genola, Utah. She was really a wonderful person. We got talking about her grandfather, H. Verlan. She said he was really for homeschooling and was in the process of writing a book about it, and the Constitution. She said he had to be careful what he said, because he was not exactly popular with some of the General Authorities. I was excited and thought his writings would help put homeschooling in a good light, in the church, so I anxiously waited for its publication. After quite some time, my friend moved and I was never able to find out if H. Verlan had published his book, so I wrote to his son, Hans, in Orem.

The answer I received from him was quite cryptic, saying that yes, his father had been writing another book, and no I couldn't have a copy of it, as "no one will be reading it", or something to those words. He stated that he had the manuscript but it would not be published, as per the Church's request, but that I could read H. Verlan's other books. What a pity that we will neve

Those who have Elder H. Verlan Anderson's books are pretty lucky, because they are no longer in print. He says things in pretty clear terms, but if you quote those terms, as I did to my bishop, it doesn't make you popular.

It is a pity that the Church that God called to be a defender and preserver of freedom in the world, and to hold the light of truth for all to see, has now hidden that light under a bushel basket and pushed that basket under the table. What they don't know is that the light is still smoldering and will soon burn a hole in that basket!

All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
   Second, it is violently opposed; and
