Routing Email from Busy Discussion Lists

When you are on a list that has a lot of volume, I find the most efficient way to handle it is to create a folder in my email program (Outlook Express in my case), and then create a rule that any message that is "to: groupname@yahoogroups.com" will automatically go to that folder.

That way they are all routed to the same place and they do not clutter my inbox. Then I go check that folder from time to time.

It is much better than the "no email" option, which requires you to log into yahoogroups online, and then wait for each page to load when you click on it. I'm far too impatient for that.

Instead, all the messages are in one folder in my email, and I can then at my convenience go in and check them. They pull up immediately when I click on them. Also, when I reply to the message, I can keep it in "rich text" (HTML) mode (allows bold, underline, images, etc). Replying online you only have the plain text reply option; and online you don't have the benefit of a spell check.

In outlook express:
1. create a folder where you will direct your messages
1a. right click on a folder where you want to create a subfolder
1b. click on "create a folder"
1c. type in the name you want for the folder
1d. click on "ok"
2. select "tools" at the top of the screen.
3. select "message rules"
4. select "mail"
5. click on "new"
6. under "1. select the conditions for your rule" check the box next to "where the To line contains people"
7. under "3. Rule Description ..." click on the hyperlink that says "contains people" type in the name of the yahoogroups email address (e.g. groupname@yahoogroups.com)
8. click on the "ok" button
9. under "2. Select the Action for your rule" click on "move it to the specified folder"
10. under "3. Rule Description ..." click on the hyperlink that says "specified (folder)"
11. move through the tree to where your folder is and click on it to highlight it
12. click on the "ok" button.
13. under "4. Name of the Rule" type in a name
14. click on "ok"
15. click on "ok" again in the next dialogue out
you're done

Schopenhauer
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
