"I Will Overthrow the Chariots"
Chapter 911 of the Bible
God punishes his people to refine them. Promise of peace in the end.
(p.s. If this is your first exposure to "Alphabetics" you might want to glance at an introductory
document or read a quick teaser.)
The 911th chapter of the Bible is Haggai 2.

Consider the following prophecy in verse 22
"And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms,
and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the
chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every
one by the sword of his brother."
I doubt there is a more fitting verse in all the scriptures to capture what happened on
September 11, 2001 -- 911.
In the Bible I am using to look up chapter
number such and such, Haggai 2 begins at the top of page 1168.
Hmmm.
Haggai 2 also talks of holy things becoming polluted and needing to be cleansed.
Metaphorically, I see that as commenting on the state of the hearts of the people of the United
States of America.
"I smote you with blasting and with mildew
and with hail in all the all the labours of your hands; ye turned not to me, saith the
Lord." (Haggai 2:17.)
What is it going to take to get our attention?
There is a famous verse in this chapter as well, found in Handell's Messiah:
"Yet once, it is a little while, and I will
shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; and I will shake all nations,
and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord
of hosts." (Haggai 2:6,7.)
While these verses describing destruction don't necessarily speak solace to the soul, there is
hope contained in the chapter as well. Just before the above verses, the Lord says, "I
am with you." And two verses after the above, he says, "The glory of this latter
house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give
peace, saith the Lord of hosts." (2:9.)
The last verse of the chapter reads, "I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of Hosts."
(2:23.)
Applying it to the situation at hand, considering that this is chapter 911, is he speaking of
the punished, or of the punisher? I believe it will be both when all is said and done.
Praise be to the Lord God / Allah.
Sincerely,
