I have a friend who lives nearby who has shown me three motors he built,
having obtained the full set of drawings from a visit with Joseph Newman, and
having paid $200,000 for the rights to manufacture. He let me borrow the six
video tapes he made from his visit with Joseph Newman.
The motors were not working at the time I saw them. Wires had been broken when
boy scout backpacks were placed on top of them while in the back of a pick-up.
My friend said that after all the expense he put into them, he was not that
excited about their performance.
They are over unity, he said, but they are not of much value when it comes to
putting out usable work.
He put a saw blade on the shaft and was able to cut a 2 x 4 in half, but he
had to cut very slowly. If he went to fast, the rotor would stop. It didn't
have much torque.
He measured 0.5 amps feeding back into his house, generated by the motor. (I'm
not sure I understood correctly what he was saying here. It had something to
do with more electricity coming out than was going in.)
When he ran the motor, the electromagnetic field was so large it messed up
television reception in a radius of about half a block.
When the motors are in vicinity to one another, when you turn the shaft on
one of the motors, the shaft on the neighboring motor will turn too. I
saw this phenomenon.
He said the smaller motors seemed to perform better than the larger ones.
All things considered, he feels like it was a waste of his money and not worth
pursuing.
Meanwhile, an Engineer friend of mine is beside himself. He doesn't care about
how marginal its performance is, he wants to see a so-called "over
unity" device functioning. Then he can fine tune it and make it worth
something.

thanks for being willing to report both points
of view. The main newman list is carefully filtered to throw out
anyone who asks too probing questions. A number of people have bought
his book and been unable to get an FE OU device to work - I know no one who
got it to work. I've talked to a few people who have given large sums
to Newman and never seen it again. He's another of these folks who
claims he wants money to go into mass production. He's pretty much
been ripping off people on that promise for over 20 years.
Publications like Infinite Energy magazine won't report those things.
I have one account of a Newman victim - please add a link:

I've seen a Newman motor made by a good friend of mine. I also have
met and visited with Norm Biss who built two. I know they run - so do
lots of motor designs. That's not the question. The real question
is if they are OU. - it appears they are not. Newman is only
willing to run apples-oranges demonstrations that are
inconclusive. There used to be a whole email group of people
who were studying Newmans book and trying to reproduce the claims - there were
also people who paid over $1000 to buy a Newman "prototype".
To the best of my knowledge, none of that stuff has worked. I
think Newman was Tilley's inspiration. Both rented a stadium and
converted a hot sports car to run off batteries and then have an inconclusive
demo and then lots of battles with former supporters. They both got a
lot of free press just by making an amazing promise. I had known of
Newman in 1984 long before I ever heard of James Randi and the skeptics
movement.

Sterling,
I would not want to insult your friend. But college
professors have made mistakes doing comparisons of input and output
power. Newman over the last 30 years has tried to get 100's of different
"experts" to take a look at his stuff. The people who spot the
flaw - no problem, they just go away. But there is a rare minority of
people like Hastings who simply make a mistake. I have web pages that go
over a number of common easy mistakes that can lead people to believe in any
of the the hundreds of OU claims out there. I have talked to victims of
Dennis Lee who have put so much money into the FE promise that they are just
not emotionally ready to consider the possibility that they may have lost all
their money. You know the power of denial from working with Tilley
victims. But as a rule of thumb, you should never give serious credence
to "evidence" or testimony from an investor since that investor
could too easily (with no intent to mislead) be badly biased.
I've offered Newman $10,000 for real proof - (not just
his history of lame meaningless demo's) - he has only promised to sue
me. Real proof would be with instruments from independent people.
I could offer long lists of email explaining exactly where the fundamental
flaws are in Newman's "proof". Newman is a nut - he married an
8 year old girl and claims direct orders from God. Now theoretically,
one could be whacked in the head and still an inventor genius. But
Newman has been taking money from people under the guise of entering mass
production of useful (not input-output demos) for probably over 20
years. He's been claiming OU for over 30. No one who bought his
book got a clear OU device. There has never even been a self
runner.

Newman's Commentary
Sterling,
unlike Maxwell's equations, ohms law, kirchoffs law, etc
- Newman doesn't even have any applicable math formulas where one could
mathematically simulate a case like "I have X grams of core in X
configuration of X emistivity surrounded by X loops of X material running X
amps at X frequency - so what is the field strength, the losses,
etc?" - Newman's "theory" can not give you any of that -
whereas real modeling programs based on Maxwell's equations can calculate all
those things in real time and the calculated results will pretty well match an
experiment. That is why I have little interest in Newman's theory or the
contradictory theory from hundreds of people like him.
Please also let your list know of some of the many
reasons there are to be skeptical of Newman's 30 years of claims and promises.

information.....
There is nothing really new in this release. Newman is promising some
big demo in a number of weeks - well that is what he has been
doing solid for 30 years. None of them remove doubt - none have ever had
independent confirmation. Newman now wants to take up the cause of one
of the contributors to the search for the answer to DNA. Ironic -
because Newman's theory of electromagnetic interaction (unlike Maxwell's
equations) offers nothing useful to the world of Xrays which that lady
used. People who design things like Xray cavities, Xray transmitters,
gamma ray detectors, fiber optics, cyclotrons, integrated circuits, radio
telescopes, space devices, etc are perfectly well served by the prevailing
electromagnetic theory. the theory works fine for everything from DC,
through radio waves, microwaves, X rays, gamma rays to cosmic waves.
Interference pattern experiments and hundreds of experiments bear it out on a
regular basis.
Newman has run for president, claimed to contact UFO's, had
serious mental problems, threatened people with violence, had a polygamous
relationship with one woman and then married her 8 year old daughter, claimed
to start new Jerusalem and all kinds of other crazy people. All
this is public record.

I suspect your friend is not an expert on reading true RMS power, which is
VERY difficult to do with non-sinusoidal waveforms. I'd bet that the phase
angles and waveform were so screwed up by the motor (as far as the meter was
concerned) that his "0.5 amps feeding back into his house, generated by
the motor" was more than wrong. VERY specialized equipment is needed to
really check for power flow in these circumstances.
As far as the radio interference, sparking equipment can easily do that,
and it is a testimony to wasted energy. Power was being used to mess up all
that reception.
Turning one shaft made the other turn? I suspect wires were connected
between them, or some other form of coupling. If not, I would look for
repeating that test under more controlled conditions.
Will he go after getting his $200K back? That's an awful hard lesson to
learn, but I'm sure Newman would be happy to fully refund his money! :-)
