While the destruction by fire of the historic Provo Tabernacle last Friday and Saturday is a tremendous loss to all the millions who were personally
touched by attending some function or other there over the past century, there
is a beacon of light that has emerged from the tragedy.
The well-known (in LDS circles) artist depiction (Harry Anderson) of Jesus
Christ, surrounded by angelic hosts at the Second Coming, which was on display
in the Tabernacle lobby, though mostly burned, has one spot that escaped
charring: in the middle where Jesus is depicted.
Firemen retrieved the picture for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints, for preservation.
The 'second coming' is often considered to be an event that will be accompanied
by fire, as Noah's flood was with water. So that this painting would come
out of this fire of this historic building in such a manner is no doubt a
connection that people will be mulling over, and rightfully so.
A Fox13
video of the event zoomed in the the painting from outside in their coverage
(without commenting on it), starting at time stamp 1:17 through 1:27.
A comment I posted on a news story when the fire story broke was: "Very sad day. I personally have had many fond memories of experiences there, performing in the Utah Valley Singers, holding a conference for the American Study Group featuring Reed Benson (son of Ezra Taft Benson), other community events. I heard Handel's Messiah live there for the first time, and participated in several sing-ins."

Harry Anderson's Painting
This painting is one of the most oft-seen images in the LDS culture; on
display at most LDS buildings and many LDS member's homes.
