Seeds Discovered by
Kasim Barakzia of Baba Afghan Restaurant, 55 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City, on
March 13, 2003.
"I would like someone who knows these languages [Arabic, Hebrew,
Chinese, Japanese, Hindu] to come and look. Maybe there is a message for
someone."
Conversation with Barakzia Kasim
March 14, 2003
I had a chance to speak briefly by phone with Barakzia. He said he stayed up late
last night photographing each seed, but that he didn't get all off them photographed as he
grew too tired. He has also put the seeds in a air tight bag so they do not diminish
from their present quality. Someone from the University is supposed to be giving him
some tips on how to preserve the seeds. He said that each seed of the approximate 300
seeds has writing on both sides. There is one seed that appears to not have any
engraving. It could be a dash or some other small symbol. He has had people stop
by the restaurant to see the seeds. He believes there is some kind of message engraved
on the seeds. It apparently will cross many language barriers. The fact that
letters from several different languages, including Hebrew and Arabic, can be deciphered in
the engravings is a message in itself. I plan on visiting him Tuesday or Wednesday.

Subject: Squash Symbols
It's not worth commenting on. Do we need any more weird
stuff coming out of Utah these days to get national/international press. NYT front
page article on polygamy, Emmanuel and his versions of the Book of Mormon and his other
deviant behavior all over CNN and FOX--what's next? "weeping Joseph Smith"
statues or sightings in the clouds?! Out of Utah, the guy and
his significant other is portrayed as yet another one of those weird
Utahns--"what are they called--Hutterites?, Mennonites? Mormons?--whatever!
