CAUTION: Paradigm-shift material
Hello,
The chiastic arrangement of President James E. Faust's entire General Conference talk on
"The Keys That Will Never Rust" has been reformatted for HTML and posted.
James E. Faust gave this talk in October '94 as a member of the LDS Church's Quorum of
Twelve Apostles. He currently serves as the second counselor in the First Presidency of
the Church.

Every word and phrase of the talk is part of both a macro poetic structure spanning the
full length of the talk, as well as of smaller chiasms and parallels which make up the
micro structures of the larger chiasm.
The complete talk is arranged in a large four-part chiasm.
Part I is a three-level chiasm. Part II is a seven-level chiasm. Part III is a huge chiasm
made up of five separate sub-chiasms and parallels, one of which has a seven-element A/A'
in a five-level chiasm. Part IV is the ascending portion of a four-part chiasm; one part,
for example, having eleven parallel components. Part IV' is the descending portion of Part
IV. Part III' is an eight-level chiasm. Part II' is a huge seven-level chiasm with one
level having a 12-part parallel, two levels having an 8-part parallel, and a triplicate
four-part parallel in A. Part I' is a nine-level chiasm with eight occurrences of
identical rare phrase usage.
I have reformatted the Internet document so that you can readily toggle back and forth
between the correlating points.
But more important than the form of this poetic structure is the content -- THE MESSAGE.
Much time could be spend pondering the ramifications. Be sure you click on the
"notes" as they occur.
I am confident that President Faust had no intention of integrating these poetic patterns
into his talk. They bespeak the inspiration of the Lord.
What is ironic, though, is that a careful reading of the poetic form brings forth subtle
nuances regarding the actual state of affairs in the Church, which those who eyes to see
will perceive.
The keys may be in tact, but like the Constitution of this great land, perhaps they hang
by a precarious thread. In this metaphor, the keys have grown rusty for neglect.
"They draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." The
Church leaders are sustained as "prophets, seers, and revelators;" but where are
the prophecies, the seership, and the revelations?
Another biting commentary found in the chiastic form is the double standard in which the
heroic saints of days gone by are lauded for their courage to defy the unrighteous
dominion of those religious autocrats who sought to compel them, yet on the other hand
those in our day who have similar courage are maligned as "apostate."
Something you might pay attention to, also, as you look through the various chiasms in the
talk is how often the word "all" or some other idea having to do with
"fullness" comes at the center. Like the top of a mountain is the peak, the
center of the chiasm contains a point of emphasis.
The bottom line is that this chiasm both affirms that yes, the keys of administering the
temporal church and the physical kingdom of God on earth are with the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints; but no, they are not being exercised in their fullness.
Rather, as prophesied, the Saints have become more as salt that has lost its savor. (3 Ne.
16; D&C 103; etc.)
Nevertheless, things will be set straight. Those who do not hearken to the voice of the
Lord will be cut off from among the people. (3 Ne. 21.)
Sincerely,
Sterling D. Allan
