Editorial:  Christmas in Honduras

Abstract: Considering the suffering caused by Hurricane Mitch, maybe we could declare Christmas '98 as "Christmas in Honduras," and redirect some of our holiday generosity to our neighbors in Central America.

Dear Editor,

In the spirit of giving, which I observe in the people of Utah, I would like to propose the following open letter to Governor Leavitt:

Dear Governor Leavitt,

Inasmuch as the Christmas season is in celebration of salvation and giving, and

Inasmuch as the citizens of Utah seek to emulate those qualities, and

Inasmuch as this year our neighbors to the South have experienced tremendous devastation by Hurricane Mitch and are in dire need,

Now therefore may we declare Christmas >98 in Utah as AChristmas in Honduras,@ and thereby encourage people to divert many gifts and giving which they intended for one another here, down to our neighbors in Central America through the various agencies that are in place to administer to their relief.

Sincerely,

Sterling D. Allan
