II Nephi 26 Structure w/ New Introduction
Hello friends of Greater Things, You may have noticed that on the home page, second after the Isaiah 28 = II Nephi 28, 29 parallel, I have had the II Nephi 26 chiasm listed as one of my favorites. This chapter was the first major poetic structure I discovered. I found it just hours after finishing writing the essay, "Will the Gentiles Also Look Beyond the Mark." To this day, I consider that essay to be a primary thesis of everything I have discovered since that time. The II Nephi 26 parallel was the first of those verifying discoveries and one of the most significant ever. It may very well be the most comprehensive validation of that essay of any single chapter of scripture. I Nephi 17 would be a close second -- or Alma 5. The problem has been that my presentation of the II Nephi 26 structure in its raw form has not fostered understanding very well. Few have been able to see what is there. Rather than "Wow!" the typical response has been, "So what?" So in these past few days I have tackled II Nephi 26, reformatting the presentation and adding an introduction/commentary which states plainly what it is I see of such value in the divine poetic structure of that chapter. A hallmark of this reformatting is the breaking the chiasms into two frames so that the correlating points can be seen on the screen at the same time. You click on A on the top frame, and A' comes into view on the bottom frame. Click on D' on the bottom frame, and D comes up on the top frame. By clicking back and forth on the letters, from A to whatever they go up to, you can see the entire chiasm without even needing to use the scroll bars. This is essentially the format I used when I dug the chiasms out in the first place, using WP 5.1. I would split the screen in half with the first half in one document and the second half in the other document. This format is so much easier than even having the document printed out. No more jumping back and forth, trying to keep your place. The awkwardness of form is removed, and the content, more readily understood. Reformat these documents in the past few days has been quite a chore: finding out how do to this, subdividing and splitting the document into the necessary halves, redirecting the hyperlinks and forming new ones for ease of navigation. What was once one document is now twelve -- and that is just the chiasms document. I also re-did the II Nephi 26:20-33 parallel, inserting the script form along the way, like I did with the Isaiah 28 = II Nephi 28, 29 parallel. However, I knew that making the formatting easier was only half the battle in helping the receptive reader be able to appreciate what the II Nephi 26 structure has to offer. It needed an introductory explanation to whet people's appetites as to the feast that is here. So early this morning (or late last night), I churned out an introduction with commentary, hitting some of the most important highlights. Hopefully these alterations will help people to be able to see what an incredible treasure of wisdom is contained in the structural layout of II Nephi 26. The URL for the table of contents for the various II Nephi 26 documents is
(in halves) http://www.greaterthings.com/Parallels/ If you have trouble with that hyperlink (likely by the time e-mail is done with it), then follow these steps: (1) click on "PARALLELS" in the header of http://www.greaterthings.com; (2) from the Chiasm/Parallels Index, select "Book of Mormon (small plates);" (3) select II Nephi 26 structure from that Index. Or you can go to "New" from a page header, and it will be listed there. For those of you who do not have ready Internet access, contact me, and I will e-mail it to you. Better yet, the Greater Things CD will include this material. Sterling D. Allan
