Isaiah 28

2 Nephi 29

[AGT] v20 Then shall come to pass

v1 But behold, there shall be many--at that day
when I shall proceed
113 the proverb: to do a marvelous work
114

a [KJV] For the bed is shorter
    b than that a man
        c can stretch himself on it:

among them,

[See "cast" & "out": Isa. 66:5; Isa. 56:6-8; 27:12,13; Zeph. 3:17-19; Gen. 37:22; Luke 6:22; John 12:31; Acts 3:21,22; 2 Ne. 26:3; Jacob 7:26; Msh. 15:5; Alma 10:23; 32:12; 33:2,10; 12:4; 34:40; Ether 13:13 (& "marvelous").]

115

a and the covering narrower
    b than that he
        c can wrap himself in it.

that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men,

[See JST-Matt. 9:18-21 = D&C 22 Chiasm (5/3/95); also Ezek. 34:10-13,16,22-25; 20:40,41,43,44]

Then shall it come to pass--at that day when I shall proceed to do a marvelous work--that this proverb shall be among many of them: The bed is shorter and the
covering narrower than that a man can stretch himself out and wrap himself up in it; and this that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men.

116

a v21 For the Lord shall rise up
    b AS IN
        c mount Perazim,

[See "parazim" 1 Chron. 14:11-13,17 (= 2 Sam. 5:19-21).]

that I may set my hand AGAIN

[See "again" & "second" & "time": Isa. 11:10,1-b,11,12 (= 2 Ne. 21); 2 Ne. 6:13-15; 25:15-18; Jacob 6:2; "hand" Ezk. 20:33-35,38.]

117

a he shall be wroth
    b AS IN
        c the valley of Gibeon,

[See "Gibeon" Josh. 10:8-11,14,25,40-42.]

THE SECOND TIME

to recover my people,
which are of the house of Israel;

For I, the Lord, shall rise up and be wroth, that I may set my hand again as I did in mount Perazim, or as in the valley of Gibeon--now for the second time--that I may recover my people, which are of the house of Israel;

118 that he may v2 And also, that I may
119

do HIS WORK,

a remember the promises
        b which I have made unto thee, Nephi,
        b and also unto thy father,
a that I would remember your seed;

That I may do my work, and remember the promises that I have made unto thee, Nephi, and also unto thy fathers, that I would remember your seed;

120

his STRANGE WORK;

a and that the words of your seed
        b should proceed forth
        b out of my mouth
a
unto your seed;

And performing my strange work, the words of your seed shall proceed forth out of my mouth unto your seed;

121

and bring to pass HIS ACT,

and my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth,

[See "hiss": Isa. 5:26 (= 2 Ne. 15:26); Moro. 10:28.]

And bringing to pass my act, my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel.

122
his STRANGE ACT.
for A STANDARD unto my people, which are of the house of Israel;

This is my strange act, to be a standard unto my people which are of the House of Israel.

123 v22 Now therefore v3 And because my words shall hiss forth--
124 be ye not many of the Gentiles
125 mockers, shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible,
126

lest your bands be made strong:

[See "bands/chains" Alma 12:10,11; D&C 88:94; also 2 Ne. 28:22 correlations #87,88 in 2 Ne. 28 Parallel (4/2/92, revised 5/22/95).]

and there cannot be any more Bible.

Now therefore, because my words shall hiss forth, many of the Gentiles will mock me, saying: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible; and their bands are made strong, as they say, There cannot be any more Bible.

127 for I v4 But thus saith the Lord God: O fools,
128 have heard they shall have a Bible;
129 from the Lord God and it shall proceed forth from the Jews,
130 of hosts mine ancient covenant people.

But thus saith the Lord God: O Fools, they shall have a Bible by which they may hearmy voice, and it shall proceed forth by my hand, from the Jews, the hosts of mine ancient covenant people.

131 a consumption,

[See D&C 59:21,22; 84:23,24; Deut. 11:17-19; 2 Kings 22:13.]

And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them?

And what thank they the Jews that were consumed that a Bible might be received of them?

132 even determined

[e.g. Acts 5:40-42; 20:19-21,26,27; Phil. 3:5,6; 2 Cor. 11:22-28; Rom. 11:11,15,19-21,25,30-32; Isa. 11:13-b.]

a Yea, what do the Gentiles mean?
    b Do they
        c remember
            d the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews,
                e and their diligence unto me,
                    f in bringing forth salvation
                        g unto the Gentiles?

a v5 O ye Gentiles,
    b have ye
        c remembered
            d the Jews, mine ancient covenant  people?
                e Nay; but ye have cursed them,
                e and have hated them,
                    f and have not sought to recover
                        g them.

O ye Gentiles, what do you mean? Have ye remembered the travails, and the
determined labors, and the pains of the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them, and have hated them; and notwithstanding their diligence unto me in bringing forth salvation unto you, ye have not sought to recover them.

133 upon the whole earth. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads;
[Omission]

for I the Lord HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN my people.

[See Rom. 11:1,2.]

But behold, for this have I determined to return all these things upon your own heads, even upon the whole earth; for though you may forget, I the Lord have not forgotten my people.

134 A v23 Give ye ear,
A v6 Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible,
135         B and hear my voice;         B and we need no more Bible.
136 A hearken,
A Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?
137         B and hear my speech.
        B v7 Know ye not that there are more nations than one?

Give ye ear, thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible; and hearken; for have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews? Why say ye, We need no more Bible--by which ye might hear my voice? Know ye not that there are more nations than one who have heard my speech?

Schopenhauer
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
   Second, it is violently opposed; and
   Third, it is accepted as self-evident.
