2 Nephi 28 |
| 38 |
v5 In
that day |
v20 For behold, at
that day |
39
|
shall the LORD of hosts
|
shall he
[the devil (opposite)] |
| 40
|
• be for a crown
of glory,
• and for a diadem of beauty,
[Compare "diadem" Ezk. 21:25-27.] |
rage in the hearts
|
| 41 |
unto the residue of his
people, |
of the children of men, |
For behold, in that day that the devil shall rage in the hearts of the
children of men, the Lord of hosts shall be for a crown of glory, and for a
diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people;
| 42 |
• v6 And for a spirit
of judgment |
• and stir them up |
43
|
• to him that
sitteth in judgment,
[See "judge" D&C 64:38.] |
• to anger
|
| 44 |
and for strength |
against |
| 45 |
to them |
that |
46
|
that turn the battle to the
gate.
[See "gate" Amos 5:10,12,15.] |
which is good.
|
and for a spirit of judgement, when Satan stirs up the children of men to
anger against him that sitteth in judgement, giving strength to them that they
might repulse the attack at the gates, which is good.
| 47 |
v7 But they
also |
v21 And others |
| 48 |
have erred |
• will he pacify,
• and lull them away |
| 49 |
through wine, |
into carnal security, |
| 50
|
and through strong
drink
[See "strong drink" Isa. 56:12.]
|
that they will say:
• All is well in Zion;
• yea, Zion prospereth,
• ALL IS WELL-- |
But them also will the devil pacify, that they err, and lull them away
through wine into carnal security, that through strong drink they will say: All
is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well; but they are out of the way.
| 51
|
are out
of the way;
|
• and thus the devil cheateth
their souls,
• and leadeth them away carefully down to hell. |
And thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down
to
hell.
52
|
• THE PRIEST
• and THE PROPHET |
v22 And behold, others
[See Isa. 56:10,11; also Ezk 22:25 see chiasm.] |
53
|
have erred
|
he flattereth away,
[See 2 Ne. 26:22.] |
| 54
|
through strong
drink,
[See "sober" 1 Thes. 5:3; "awful"
Ether 8:24.]
[see 666
Sketch]
|
a and telleth
them
b there is no hell;
a and he saith unto them:
b I am no devil,
b for there is
none--
a and thus he whispereth in their ears, |
And behold, the priest and the prophet have erred, being flattered away
through strong drink; for the devil saith unto them, whispering in their ears:
there is no hell, and I am no devil, for there is none.
| 55 |
they are swallowed up |
until he grasps them |
56
|
of wine,
|
• with his awful
chains,
• from whence there is no deliverance. |
And when they are swallowed up, he grasps them with the awful chains of his
wine, from whence there is no deliverance.
| 57 |
they are out
of the way |
v23 Yea, they
are grasped |
| 58 |
through strong
drink; |
• with death,
• and hell; |
Yea, they are grasped out of the way through strong drink with death and
hell, that they err in vision.
| 59
|
they err
in vision,
[See Ezk. 13:10,16,23.]
|
• and death,
• and hell,
• and the devil,
• and all that have been seized
therewith |
| 60
|
a they stumble
b in
judgment.
[See "stand" Malachi 3:2; "tremble"
Isa. 64:2.]
|
a must stand
b before the
throne of God,
b and be
judged according to their works,
a from whence they must go into the place prepared for them,
a even a lake of fire and brimstone,
a which is endless torment. |
And death, and hell, and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith,
must go into the place prepared for them, even a lake of fire and brimstone,
which is endless torment; for they stumble when they must stand before the
throne of God to be judged according to their works.

v8 For ALL
tables
[See Rom. 11:9,10. also intro
core scriptures: Isa. 28;8.]] |
v24 Therefore, wo be unto him
|
| 62 |
• are full
of vomit
• and filthiness, |
that is at ease in Zion!
|
Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion, making all tables full of
vomit and filthiness! [when at least these tables should have been clean!]
| 63 |
so that there is NO PLACE |
v25 Wo be unto him |
| 64 |
clean. |
that crieth: All is well! |
Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well; so that there is no place clean!
