Isaiah 29

v1Woe to the crown of pride,

v1 Woe to Ariel,

to the drunkards

to Ariel,

~~~~~

of Ephraim,

the city where David dwelt!

~~~~~

whose glorious beauty

add ye year to year;

[See Isa. 56:12; 2 Ne. 28:21.]

~~~~~

is a fading flower,

let them kill sacrifices.

[See D&C 1:15; Isa. 1:11,21.]

~~~~~

which are on the head of THE FAT VALLEYS

and it shall be unto me

~~~~~

of them that are overcome with wine!

as Ariel.

v2 Behold, the Lord

v2 Yet I

~~~~~

a hath a mighty and strong one,

$ will distress Ariel,

. . b which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm,

. . b as a flood of mighty waters overflowing,

$ and there shall be heaviness and sorrow:

a shall cast down to the earth with the hand.

v3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

v3 And I will camp against thee round about,

v4 And the glorious beauty,

and will lay siege against thee

~~~~~

which is on the head of the fat valley,

with a mount,

~~~~~

shall be a fading flower,

and I will raise forts against thee.

and as the hasty fruit before the summer;

v4 And thou

~~~~~

which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.

a v5 In that day shall the LORD of hosts be

a and shalt speak out of the ground,

. . b for a crown of glory,

. . b and thy speech shall be low out of the dust,

. . b and for a diadem of beauty,

a and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground,

a unto the residue of his people, [See Isa. 29:4 = 2 Ne. 27:13 = 2 Ne. 26:16 = 33:13 = Morm. 8:23 = Moro. 10:27.]

. . b and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

v6 Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts

$ in judgment,

$ with thunder,

$ and with earthquake,

$ and great noise,

$ with storm and tempest,

$ and the flame of devouring fire.

$ and hath closed your eyes:

$ and your rulers,

$ the seers

$ and whom shall he make to understand doctrine?

$ and drawn from the breasts.

v10 For precept must be upon precept,
precept upon precept;

v12 To whom he said,

v13 Wherefore the Lord said,

$ This is the rest

a Forasmuch as this people draw near me

$ wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest;

$ and this is the refreshing:

a do honour me,

yet they would not hear.

$ but have removed their heart far from me,

$ and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

v13 But the word of the Lord

v14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do

a marvellous work

was unto them

among this people,

precept upon precept,
precept upon precept;

even a marvellous

line upon line,
line upon line;

work

here a little,
and there a little;

and a wonder:

that they might go,

$ and snared,

v14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD,

that rule this people

$ that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD,

which is in Jerusalem.

v15 Because ye have said,

and they say,

$ We have made a covenant with death,

$ Who seeth us?

$ and with hell are we at agreement;

$ and who knoweth us?

when the overflowing scourge

v16 Surely your turning of things

shall pass through,

it shall not come unto us:

shall be esteemed as the potter's clay:
