Isaiah 66:1-15 = JST-II Thessalonians 2 Parallel
Introduction
Isaiah 66 and II Thes. 2 are the only two verses in the scriptures that use the word
"delusion," let alone mention the concept that God sends this strong delusion because
the people refuse to do things his way. It turns out that these two chapters are parallel
one to the other, and that the sequence of the parallel follows the chiastic order of the chiasm
that spans II Thes. 2, with the focal point: "he it is who now worketh."

(sequence follows II
Thes. 2 Chiasm) |
| v1 Thus saith the LORD, |
v1 Now we beseech you, brethren, |
a The
heaven
. . . b is my throne,
a and the earth
. . . b is my footstool: |
by the coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ,
[D&C 65:5,6 "...the
Son of Man shall come...to
meet the kingdom of God which is set up on the earth.
...May the kingdom of God go forth, that the kingdom of heaven
may come..."]
[1 Ne. 17:36-39; Acts 7:4-53; 1 Chron. 28:2; Abr. 2:7 (see correlation #33)] |
| • where
is the house that ye build unto me?
[Jer. 23:11; D&C 112:25,26
"upon my house"]
• and
where is the place of my rest? |
and by our gathering
together unto him,
[D&C 113:10] |
| v2 For all those things
hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I
look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth
at my word. |
v2 That ye be not
soon shaken in mind, or be troubled by letter, except ye receive
it from us; neither by spirit, nor by word, as that the day of Christ is at hand. [JST-Matt.
1:37.] |
| .
a v3 He
that killeth an ox
. . . b is as if he slew a man;
a he that sacrificeth a lamb,
. . . b as if he cut off a dog's neck;
a he that offereth an oblation,
. . . b as if he offered swine's blood;
a he that burneth incense,
. . . b as if he blessed an idol. |
[skip in verse sequence]
v10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness
in them that perish;
[D&C 1:15,16 "...they have strayed
from mine ordinances, and have broken mine everlasting covenant; they seek not the
Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way...] |
• Yea,
they have chosen their own ways,
• and
their soul delighteth in their abominations. |
because they received
not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [Ezek.
20:8,13,16,21,24,28,32,39.] |
v4 I also will
choose their delusions,
[Ezek. 20:25,26.] |
v11 And for this
cause God shall send them strong
delusion, that they should believe a lie: |
| and will bring their
fears upon them; |
v12 That they all might be damned |
a because when I
called,
. . . b none did answer;
a when I spake,
. . . b they did not hear: |
who believed not the
truth,
[D&C 133:66,67; Isaiah 65:12;
41:28; 59:4,16; Psalms 69:20; Job 5:1; Ezek. 22:30; Zeph. 3:6.] |
• but
they did evil before mine eyes,
• and
chose that in which I delighted not. |
but had pleasure
in unrighteousness. |
| v5 Hear the word
of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; |
v13 But we are bound to
give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, |
| Your brethren that hated
you, [Zeph. 3:18,19 "...I will...gather her that was driven
out..."] |
because God hath from the
beginning chosen you to salvation |
| that cast you
out for my name's sake, [3 Ne. 12:10 "persecuted...for my
name's sake"] |
through sanctification
of the Spirit and belief of the truth: [Hel. 3:34,35
"persecutions," "sanctification"] |
| said, Let the LORD
be glorified: [Isa.
5:19-24.]but he shall appear to your joy, |
v14 Whereunto he
called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory
of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| .
and they shall be ashamed.
[Jer. 23:12,• .] |

v3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for
there shall come a falling away first, |
| v6 A voice of noise
from the city, |
and that man of sin
be revealed, the son of perdition; |
| a voice
[Compare Daniel 7:20,25 "...had a mouth that spake very great
things;" "he shall speak great words against the most High"] |
v4 Who opposeth and
exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; |
| from the temple,
[Compare Rev. 13:6 "He opened his mouth in blaspheme against
God...and his tabernacle." Also D&C 112:26.] |
so that he as God
sitteth in the temple of
God, showing himself that he is God. |
| a voice of the
LORD |
v8 And then shall that
Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, |
| that rendereth recompense |
and shall destroy
with the brightness of his coming. |
| to his enemies. |
v9 Yea, the Lord, even
Jesus,
whose coming is not until after there cometh a falling
away, by the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying
wonders, |
