We are ZIONIC MINISTRIES and have for years had a "ministry of
books," finding and providing Christian and other good books to those who
need them. We are proud to offer, for the first time, a series of essays,
articles, and writings that we have produced ourselves.
Mark Thomase is a historian and ordained minister of the gospel. Below is a
list of what's available and recommended donation to cover the costs of
printing and shipping. God bless you!
 | "Conservative Protestantism and the Vietnam War" by Mark
M. Thomase.
Many liberal and moderate religious groups played a
well-publicized part in protesting against the War in Vietnam, but this
paper is the first scholarly look at conservative and fundamentalist
Christian groups and their response to the War. Movements examined include
the Southern Baptist Convention and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. How did opposition to the War affect the growth and decline of
denominations ever since? 39 pp., recommended donation $5.00 |
 | "Mormon Missions to the Indians: A Promise Unfulfilled"
by Mark M. Thomase.
This scholarly paper examines the history of Mormon missions
to the Indians of North America, from 1830 to the present. The Latter-day
Saint view of Indians has changed radically over the years. Features
histories of missions work in the LDS (Mormon) Church, the Reorganized LDS
Church, and the Church of Christ (Temple Lot), and profiles of two prominent
Native American leaders: George P. Lee (LDS) and Paul Lucero (RLDS). Edited
by Vine Deloria, Jr. 31 pp., recommended donation $5.00 |
 | "Prophets, Seers, and Revelators: A Comparison of two American
Religious Movements in the Twentieth Century" by Mark M.
Thomase.
A scholarly socio-historical comparison of the Mormon and
Pentecostal/charismatic movements. Thomase demonstrates that while Mormonism
became more rigidly dogmatic and cult-like in the Twentieth Century,
Pentecostalism became more open and diverse. The reasons for these changes
are found in the original roots of the movements themselves. Thomase also
looks carefully at two movements that are "exceptions that prove the
rule": Polygamy-practicing offshoots of the Mormon Church, and the
charismatic renewal within the Reorganized LDS Church. 28 pp., recommended
donation $5.00 |
 | "Contemporary Christian Centers: A Church within A Church"
by Mark M. Thomase.
Mark doesn't consider this among his best writings, but we
offer it here because written information about this group is extremely hard
to find. (See also "Prophets, Seers, and Revelators" above for
more information on the CCC's.) This group was a fast-growing movement
within the Reorganized LDS Church that emphasized contemporary praise and
worship music, evangelizing the bruised and broken-hearted, and later, signs
and wonders and the charismatic gifts including tongues, healing, and
prophecy. Also included is a personal retrospective of the short-lived
Denver CCC. 12 pp., recommended donation $3.00 |
 | "Money, Sex, and Power: A Christian Response" by Mark M.
Thomase.
Throughout the ages, Christians have struggled with these
three issues: money, sex, and power. Medeival divines denied themselves
these things by taking vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience; Christians
today try their own versions of tithing, marital fidelity, and Christian
shepherding while the world teaches greed, lust, and independence. None of
these things as currently taught are God's will, and none of these things
work! Find out God's heart on these touchy subjects, with wisdom from
surprising sources! 25 pp., recommended donation $5.00 |
 | "The Twin Strands of Priesthood
Authority" by Mark M. Thomase.
Mormons claim to have the restored priesthood in their midst
. . . so why is it that the charismatics and Pentecostals have all of the
signs and gifts that should accompany it? What is the Holy Spirit saying
today? And what can we expect in the future? 18 pp., recommended donation
$5.00 |
 | "On Marriage" by Mark M. Thomase.
After our relationship with the Lord, our most important
relationship is with our spouse. Yet this relationship seems to be under
unrelenting attack from the government today. Marriage is a covenant between
a man, a woman, and the Lord, yet too many Christians have unwittingly added
the government as an unrighteous partner in the contract! Is there any
wonder that so many marriages are now failing? Avoid these pitfalls -- from
the very beginning! 9 pp., recommended donation $3.00. We consider this
teaching so important that if you are contemplating marriage, or know
someone who is, we will send you a copy FREE. |
