The first thing I noticed in looking up word 385 in the New Testament
Lexicon (Zodhiates') is the word that
comes immediately after it.
386 "<"FJ"F4H anastasis
Resurrection, recovery. (I) A standing on the feet again or rising as
opposed to falling. (II) Resurrection of the body from death, return to
life.
The impression that hit me when I saw this, and which has been confirmed
with what I have found in further investigation, is that this word study on
385 is going to have a positive, redemptive, uplifting tone whereas the 801
write-up tended to be extremely negative in its portrayal of how the people of
God have reneged on their calling to be a light to the world.
The meaning of word 385 itself is:
385 "<"FB"T anaspao
To draw up or back again.
To me, this holds out promise to the people of area code 385 signifying
that at least a significant portion of them are going come around and become
the people they were foreordained to be in helping to pull off victory for the
Lord and the cause of freedom that is inseparable from the kingdom of God.
The word two prior to this one means, "to move or stir up" (383, anaseio),
which calls to mind the idea of stirring the people to a sense of their
destiny.
The word after that and prior to 385 means "to pack up baggage, and so
forth, in order to remove, hence to subvert or unsettle" (384, anaskeuazo).
The derivatives listed include "Iaposkeuazo (643), to remove; kataskeuazo
(2680), to prepare fully; paraskeuazo (3903), to make ready,
prepare."
What comes to my mind in reading these things in this context is the idea
that when the tribulations hit, then the people who have prepared -- though
they have been in the midst of ease -- will be able to flee to places of
safety such as the Sanpete Valley
which has a prophetic destiny for this exodus.
In accordance with the idea of awakening, word 1127 (gregoreou) that
spills onto page 385 of Zodhiates' New
Testament dictionary means, "to watch, to refrain from sleep."
It is derived from word 1235, diagregoreo, "to be
awake." That is a direct word match between word 385 and page 385.
Word 1129, also on page 385, similarly means, "exercise of the body by
severities such as fasting, abstinence, or watching."
What's more is that Zodhiates' definition and explanation for word 1127
fits in perfect synch with the antonyms given for word 801, which number is
the telephone area code prior to the change to 385 in December.
Here is Zodhiates' entry for word 801:
801 asunetoV asunetos
Without insight or understanding, unintelligent, foolish.
Antonyms sunetos (4908), able to reason logically
and arrive at the proper conclusions; sophos (4680), wise, able to
regulate relationships with God; nephalios (3524), circumspect,
sober, free from the influences of intoxicants and avoiding them.
Now compare that with Zodhiates' explanation for word 1127 that begins on
page 384 but whose bulk is on page 385:
1127 gregoreuo To watch, to refrain from sleep. It
was transferred in meaning from the physical to the moral religious
sphere. It denotes attention to God's revelation or to the knowledge
of salvation; a mindfulness of threatening dangers which, with conscious
earnestness and an alert mind, keeps it from all drowsiness and all
slackening in the energy of faith and conduct.
...This involves the duty of vigilance combined with prayer in regard either
to a certain day or hour when the Son of man shall arrive, or to some actual
crisis or trial.... In Acts 20:31 it is found in the exhortation by
Paul to the elders at Miletus in view of the apostasy that has taken place
or may be repeated under the influence of "fierce wolves."
...In 1 Thess. 5:6 and 1 Pet. 5:8, the verb "to watch" is combined
with nepho (3525), to exercise discretion or to be sober, which in 2
Tim. 4:5 and 1 Pet. 4:7 is translated, "be watchful" or
"watch." However, nepho means to be temperant [sic]
sober (originally to avoid intoxication, the abuse of alcohol). It
conveys the sense or calmness or coolness prepared for any
emergency.... Watchfulness or watching indicates that the Christian is
alert or vigilant in order to defend himself against a spiritual foe.
He is properly prepared for any surprise or sudden change in his
circumstances.
Word 801 refers to the antonym 3524 nephalios; and
word 1127 on page 385 refers to 3525 nepho. Word
3525 is derived from word 3524. Thus these two area code numbers are
linked, but by opposite meanings. 801 conveys spiritual grogginess or
stupor while 385 conveys the meaning of alertness. WAKE UP!
I find that very interesting and hopeful for the people of those regions
(as well as those who find themselves in parallel circumstances
elsewhere). My personal experience as I have lived in the Provo and
Mapleton area for approximately ten years off and on is that the people are
generally conservative and conscientious about freedom, though they are
reluctant to full alertness because of the perception that "the
brethren" in Salt Lake (still 801) "aren't currently saying anything
about these conspiracies [to overthrow the freedom of all lands nations and
countries]," though the voice of warning has certainly been raised in the
past by heroes such as Ezra Taft Benson.
It was in Provo back in 1990 that I commenced the American Study Group,
which, thanks to the help of many wonderful friends, served to wake up many
people. So I hope you will be patient with me as I indulge on a personal
level here and mention that word 1130, the numbers of my birthday (Nov. 30),
is also found on page 385, and its meaning is relevant to the idea of birth:
"To be naked."
Speaking of naked:
Also on page 385 of Zodhiates' NT
lexicon is word 1128.
1128 gumnazo To train naked, as the Greek athletes.
Generally to exercise, train. Thus gumnasion, gymnasium, is a
place of exercising.
While the idea of exercise and gymnasiums are applicable to most any area
of the country, and it could be said that the pending 385 area code areas are
particularly keen on exercise in general; what makes this correlations of
particular relevance is that the Winter Olympics are coming to Utah in 2002,
and the 385 telephone code areas will be hosting several key venues for the
Olympics.
As a second witness or occurrence of this match, the following word
definition is found on page 385 of my Webster's '71 dictionary:
gymnasium (Gr. gymnasion, from gymnos, naked)
A place where athletic exercises are performed.
Word 385 in the Old Testament lexicon (Gesenius')
is
385 9/;*! Ithmar
"land of palms"
On first inspection that might not seem to have anything to do with the
areas of Utah that will receive the 385 telephone code. But a look at
the etymology of the word gives relevant commentary, as do the words before
and after it in its alphabetical sequence.
According to James Strong, word
385 is derived from words "339" (land of) and 8558 "a palm
tree." Interesting that this number presents a chiasm of the last
two digits of 385: 8558.
Word 8558 is derived from the root word that means, "to be or stand
erect."
This ties in again with Isaiah 52:1,2 which contains the injunction to
"awake, awake, put on strength, O Zion . . . shake thyself from the dust;
arise, and sit down."
The word just prior to this one, alphabetically, has an antonym meaning:
"a melting, liquefaction" (8557), which calls to mind the
destructions by earthquake prophesied to come to these valleys of Utah that
sit on a significant fault.
The word after it, 8559, "Tamar," the name of a town, is
also known by the name "Palmyra" (Gesenius). That is
the name of a key town in Mormon history, calling to mind Joseph Smith and the
restoration of the gospel, from which movement sprang most the inhabitants of
what will become telephone area code 385.
The word following word 385 in the OT lexicon (Gesenius) is:
386 0;*! aythawn (1)
perennial, constant, especially used of water. 0;*! -;1
"a perennial stream," constantly flowing. Continuance, Ps.
74:15 "rivers of continuance," i.e. continually flowing.
(2) firm, valid (firmness, strength), Jer. 5:15 "a mighty nation"
(3) [opposite manifestation] hard, hence pernicious, terrible.
(4) a rock, a crag; Micah 6:2 "the rocks, the foundations of the
earth."
This calls to mind Lehi's injunction to his wayward sons, Laman and Lemuel,
in the second chapter of the Book of Mormon (I Ne. 2):
9 And when my father saw that the waters of the river emptied into the
fountain of the Red Sea, he spake unto Laman, saying: O that thou mightest
be like unto this river, continually running into the fountain of all
righteousness!
10 And he also spake unto Lemuel: O that thou mightest be like unto this
valley, firm and steadfast, and immovable in keeping the commandments of the
Lord!
11 Now this he spake because of the stiffneckedness of Laman and Lemuel; for
behold they did murmur in many things against their father, because he was a
visionary man, and had led them out of the land of Jerusalem, to leave the
land of their inheritance, and their gold, and their silver, and their
precious things, to perish in the wilderness. And this they said he had done
because of the foolish imaginations of his heart.
12 And thus Laman and Lemuel, being the eldest, did murmur against their
father. And they did murmur because they knew not the dealings of that God
who had created them.
This verse, in our context, calls to mind the future exodus that the
remnant will be called to take to escape the destructions that await the main
valleys because of the wickedness of those who have called themselves the
people of God but who too often are but hypocrites. The Lord gathers out
the wheat from the midst of the tares, and then the tares are left to be
burned (destroyed, purged), whether it be by earthquake, the return of Lake
Bonneville, invading armies, plagues or all of these and more.
Neighboring Sanpete Valley will
be one of the places of refuge for these remnant escapees.
The word definition just before 385 in Hebrew (Gesenius) is
384 -!*;*! Itheiel
"God is with me."
The following word definitions are found on page 385 of Gesenius' Hebrew-Chaldee Lexicon to the Old
Testament
3545 healing, mitigation
3546 to be able
3547 to presage, to predict
3548, 3549 a priest
3550 priesthood, the office or function of a priest
...3553 a helmet [full armor of God]
"Would to God that all the Lord's people were prophets," mourned
Moses, as the people insisted on placing a man between them and God. The
remnant who overcome will be such: kings and priests unto the most high
God -- the valiant "boys from the west," the "elders of
Israel," who will stand in the gap as the morality and freedoms of this
nation and even of the world hang in the balance.
The first definition on page 385 of Thayer's
Greek English Lexicon of the New Testament, spilling over from the
previous page, is
3089 luo [fut. luso.] To loose; i.e. 1.
to loose any person (or thing) tied or fastened; 2. to loose one
bound, i.e. to unbind, release from bonds, set free; to discharge from
prison, let go; 3. to loosen, undo, dissolve; to overthrow, do away
with.
Again, this calls to mind Isaiah 52:1,2, which seems to be thematic for
385.
"...Loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive
daughter of Zion."
I also think of the prophecy, "the lawful captives shall be
delivered." Their bonds are considered 'lawful' in the society in
which they live, but the people of God will be delivered from those
bonds. How many 'lawful' bonds there are in this Babylonian society in
which we live? The command "loose thyself from the bands of thy
neck" is a proactive command which will be finalized by the Lord's
intercession to enable those bonds to be fully broken.
Another interesting definition on page 385 of Thayer's is
3091 Lot a covering, veil
The word "veil" is also found on page 385 of the index to the LDS Triple Combination.
Interesting that the name "Lot" would mean "veil," for
Lot was "hidden" in the midst of a society that was destined for
destruction, but was called out on the eve, and his life preserved.
Also on page 385 of Thayer's is the proper noun or name:
3094 Magdalene
Mary Magdalene can be considered a metaphor of the people of God, whom the
Lord compares to a bride. [See
write-up on this subject.] Mary, who was most likely Jesus' wife,
had had seven devils cast out of her. So also might the
"Church" be simultaneously considered both the bride and the
whore. The tares within constitute the "great and abominable"
element, and the wheat are the "bride" element. Hence the need
for the devils to be cast out, the bride purified, the house of God set in
order. This is one of the responsibilities of the remnant who are called
out, of which remnant the 385 telephone area code geographical region contains
a very significant portion.
On page 385 of James Strong's
Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible is found the listing,
"gift." That is the meaning of the very last word of the Old
Testament lexicon, conveying the idea of alpha and omega,
signifying in this context the gift of deliverance that will come to the
remnant Saints who repent and cry mightily to the Lord in the tribulations
that come because they have treated lightly the things they have been given.
Another entry of interest on the page is the listing,
"Gilead." I think of Avraham Gileadi, whose work with the
translation of Isaiah and expounding his commentary on our day, has been
monumentally instrumental in waking up a good many Saints. I would dare
say that most all those who end up among the Lord's chosen "remnant"
will have read writings by Avraham Gileadi.
The entry just before "gift" is "gier-eagle,"
which brings to mind the parable/scripture, "where the carcass is, there
will the eagles be gathered." I believe that during the
tribulations, Sanpete Valley will
be the primary place of protection and gathering of the Lord's people, though
there will be other pockets elsewhere in the world.
The phone prefix of Manti, 835, the county seat, is a variation of the area
code number 385 to the north. The word "remnant," for example,
is found on page 835 of Zodhiates. [See write-up on
Manti.]
