May 5 Alignment Cataclysms
Didn't Happen
Disaster possibilities are
good to bear in mind to remind us how blessed we are and to stir us up to
greater obedience to God and love for our fellow men.
On 9-9-99, I published an Alphabetics Bible word study on the May 5 planetary alignment. The number 55 seemed to be
the hot number on that one, producing such words as "celestial,
harmonics, foretold, darkness, smoke, blackness, tempest, gloom, chaff, tares,
winnowing, smoke which lifts itself up in dense volume, mother earth,
changes."
As far as overlapping definitions and multiple witnesses, I would consider it
one of the more significant studies I have done -- an 8 on a scale of 1-10.
Nevertheless, I presented this not as a certainty, but as a "probable
future" -- something that COULD happen, like the bridge in Washington
state that was toppled by the resonance created by a persistent wind of the
right velocity. The wind didn't topple the bridge, the resonant vibrations
did. Such resonances are replete in nature, which gives reason to believe they
could also occur with gravity as well -- or with the magnetic fields of the
planets, as proposed
by physicist David W. Allan (not tied to the May alignment).
Now that May 5 has come and gone and nothing has happened in conjunction with
the height of the planetary alignment (a nominal alignment within about 23
degrees), a retrospective commentary is in order. Ironically, what did happen
during this time frame was that the worst computer virus yet was unleashed on
the planet.
A response I gave in a radio interview was that it is good for us to have
scenarios like this poised before us to cause us to remember how precariously
close we are at any given time to being called before our maker to give an
accounting. Just as an individual never knows when he or she is going to die,
and that on any given day something or other could happen to take his or her
life, so also does the life of society as a whole hang in the balance.
There are so many scenarios that could unfold. Nuclear war, terrorist acts,
huge asteroids plowing into the earth, killer diseases with no cure,
upper-atmosphere electromagnetic pulse from a hydrogen bomb blast that wipes
out all unprotected computer circuits for a thousand mile radius, superviruses
that could wipe out a majority of computers, fragile economies toppling like
dominoes.
By having these presented before us, we increasingly appreciate the comforts
that we enjoy, and we prepare for these scenarios by developing defenses to
ward them off or to diminish their effect should they happen.
Ideally, the threat of such destructions awakens and arouses our faculties so
that we endeavor to draw closer to God and keep his commandments, foremost of
which includes loving our neighbors, not annihilating them.
Jonah of old predicted the destruction of Nineveh, something that surely would
have happened had they not repented. But they repented, and they were spared.
No destruction happened. While today we honor this scenario, I wouldn't be
surprised if there were some in that day who labeled Jonah a false prophet.
In saying that, I am not presuming that such is certainly the case in this
instance. Nevertheless, I will maintain that the presenting of such scenarios
as the possibility of cataclysm produced by alignment resonances from a
planetary alignment is good for society, to keep us ever vigilant.
The purpose of prophecy is not just to tell us what WILL happen, but also to
present for our consideration what COULD happen. It is up to us both
individually and as a civilization to determine by our choices what DOES
happen under the watchful eye and superintending hand of God who renders
justice and mercy according to the choices we make. May we ever chose life --
the abundant life in Christ.
