The Sealed Portion and Fullness of Scripture

Hidden Code Expounded

What we have now in the BofM is 1/3 of what was there to be translated at the time Joseph received the plates from the Hill Cumorah.  The "sealed portion" contained the remaining 2/3.  The whole, combined,  would be 3/3.  Looking at page numbers in the Bible that correspond to the 531 pages in the BofM and its multiples of 1x, 2x and 3x sheds collaborative insight and commentary on the "sealed portion."

Here's a quick little exercise.

If you don't have a copy of the Book of Mormon and the LDS publication of the Bible on hand, imagine yourself performing this simple procedure.

  1. Take a current copy of the Book of Mormon (copyright 1981, which is what most are that are now in circulation).
  2. Turn to the very last page (Moroni 10:34).
  3. You will see that the page number is 531.
  4. Multiply 531 times three (531 x 3).   Three because the Book of Mormon we have now is 1/3 of what Joseph Smith was given.  2/3 is yet to be translated, being "sealed" to come forth once the Gentiles have become purified.  So 3/3 would represent the entire book.  Hence three would correspond to the idea of the entire book.  3 x 531 = 1593.
  5. Turn to page 1593 in the Bible (LDS publication, with footnotes, dictionary, topical guide, JST, and maps; copyright 1979)
  6. You will see that the Bible (ending in Rev. 22:21) goes up to page 1590, just three pages shy of 1593.  That comes to within 99.8%, which is very close.
  7. Turn to p. 1593 imagining the page numbers.

It is a blank sheet, prior to the beginning of the Topical Guide.

Page 1592 is also a blank sheet. So as you look at the two open pages they are both blank -- right after the entire Bible.

Remember, three times 351 symbolized "complete."

I think you will agree with me that it is highly significant that the number 1593 would come so close to the total number of pages in the Old and New Testament.

What is the significance of a blank page?

Nothing on it.

I would submit that it is blank to illustrate that we are to "compose" what is there.  The purpose of scripture is to get us to the point where we are our own Urim and Thummim, communicating directly with God. We become scripture. All things point to Christ. We arrive at a point that we no longer "need" the written word of any cannon, for we have become the word. That is the fullness.  That is our destination.  That is the purpose of scripture.

Note about "Alphabetics"

I have found in thousands of studies that there is a significant correlation in the numbering associated with scripture, which has the ability to serve an instructive role in our life, combined with the principle of personal revelation and choice.

If this is your first exposure to "Alphabetics" you might want to glance at an introductory document or read a quick teaser.

Page 531 x 1 in the Bible

Page 531 in the Bible (LDS publication) spans 2 Kings 15:35b through 2 Kings 16:15a.

The first sentence on the page is "He built the higher gate of the house of the Lord."  Then the next sentence is the next verse, and first full verse on the page.  It reads, "Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?"

Both of these concepts are very pertinent to the concept of additional scripture and preparatory scripture.  It is saying essentially that there is more that has been written, and refers the reader to that additional record.  Just as the Bible was not all that God has written, but there was also the Book of Mormon and many other scriptures to come forth, so also, the Book of Mormon as we have it now is but 1/3 of what was handed to Joseph Smith to be translated.

As an illustration of this principle in the New Testament, the last verse of the four gospels, John 21:25, says, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.  Amen."  That's not telling me that the Bible is all there is and ever will be.  Far from it.

How appropriate that page 531 in the Bible, which corresponds to the number of pages in the Book of Mormon, would contain this concept.

Chapter 16 is describing the history of the beginning of the reign of Ahaz.  There are several wordings there are are nearly verbatim to Isaiah's account of the same era, which account is also cited in the Book of Mormon.

To me, this calls to mind the significance of the extensive citation and commentary on Isaiah contained in the Book of Mormon.

Isaiah is one of those "jumping off points" from conformity with the mainstream, status quo, to a personal awaking and walk with God.  One cannot understand Isaiah without receiving personal revelation.  The quest to understand Isaiah is a quest to gain a personal connection with the heavens.  The process of seeking and obtaining that connection becomes an experiential practicing ground for eventually getting to the point that one is continually in tune with the will of God, and eventually becoming scripture.

Moses' word, "Would God that all the Lord's people were prophets."  That is our birthright and destiny -- not the reliance on that which God has given another, which is subject to their filters and the weaknesses of written or verbal communication.  A personal revelation is far superior to reading or hearing something that has been revealed to someone else.

Page 531 x 2 in the Bible

Page 1062 in the Bible (LDS publication) spans Ezekiel 25:3 through 26:2a. It is a page saying that God will destroy the Ammonites because they said "aha" to the Israelites in a time of their distress.

I personally do not believe that this is God talking, but a man who thinks that is the way God is, as an excuse to celebrate punishment and vengeance on someone he doesn't like.  It is an example of that which has been canonized as "scripture" but which is not scripture.  That's not my God talking there -- not the one I have come to know.  This illustrates the fact that part of our becoming scripture is to get to the point where we are comfortable disagreeing with what is recorded and commonly accepted as "scripture" because that is the way it has been viewed for generations, even millennia.  "The infallible word" paradigm is grossly flawed and is actually idolatry of the printed word in place of going to God direct for our personal relationship and trust and guidance.

The cannon is, generally, a repository of some of the most inspired writings available on earth, but it is not perfect.  God is.  If we wish to seek God's perfection and find completion ourselves, then we turn to God, not the written word as a substitute for God.  Rather, the written word is a tool to get us to think and feel in such a way that we draw closer to God as we live true to what the Spirit of God directs in our lives, following our conscience.

TinyURL Synchronicity

I discovered this 531 x 1, x 2, x 3 on Jan. 22 at the Ezekiel Seminar in Salt Lake City, and didn't begin recording it until Jan. 27.  It has sat unfinished for over a month, with all the other things I've needed to attend to.  Then, this morning, March 3, 2005, when composing a flash idea that came to me to Duane Erickson, which tied to this study, I decided to at least get the essence briefly here before sending people to read it; and in so doing I basically completed it to my satisfaction.  I'm sure there is much more that could be discovered and reported in the phenomenon, but I've captured the essence.  I then went to prepare to send out the letter I'd composed to Duane, and saw that the URL is very long and will be chopped by most email programs if forwarded, so I went to tinyurl.com to create a shortcut.  It creates its urls randomly.  The URL it generated for the letter to Duane, which links to this study, and which really spurred my thinking to the point of being able to rapidly summarize this page, was http://tinyurl.com/532ho.  "532" is awfully close to 531, even as 1593 (531 x 3) is awfully close to 1590, the last page of the Bible.

How do the angles do that?  Pretty amazing.  I love it.  I see things like that happen nearly daily.

Why alleged "Sealed Portion" works for Duane - Duane Erickson testifies that his interaction with the record found at TheSealedPortion.com has brought profound changes in his life. An explanation is given here as to why that is, and why it does not necessarily "endorse" TheSealedPortion as THE bona fide "Sealed Portion."

All truth passes through three stages:
