A Brief Introduction to the Greater Things Web Site
And the angel said unto me that many shall see greater things than these, to the intent that they might believe that these signs and these wonders should come to pass upon all the face of this land, to the intent that there should be no cause for unbelief among the children of men--and this to the intent that whosoever will believe might be saved, and that whosoever will not believe, a righteous judgment might come upon them; and also if they are condemned they bring upon themselves their own condemnation. ...For behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for yourselves.
Helaman 14:28-30
Hello,
Welcome to the Greater Things web site.
No matter who you are, or what your walk in life has been, hopefully you will find this site to be of benefit, both for you in your life as well as for society as a whole.
The idea of "greater things" is that God is willing and even anxious to continually impart greater light and knowledge to each and every one of us as we seek for truth and improvement.
The resources provided here are intended to increase your faith in God, expand your understanding of God’s plan for you individually as well as for us as a civilization, and bolster your desire to faithfully carry out your particular mission. No matter where you come from, you will be challenged in your outlook, moving you forward from where you are now, wherever that is. Growth does not take place without challenge.
How much you get out of this is entirely up to you. God’s angels stand ready to assist -- to the extent that you allow your heart and mind to be submissively in tune.
All are alike unto God. Each of us is precious in God's sight -- whatever our particular role may be. We are as one body, each a part of the whole.
Everyone born to this earth has a unique mortal package: peculiar gifts, strengths and weaknesses. As we turn our lives to God, everything that has happened and will happen to us can be turned to good. The most terrible of circumstances can be overcome triumphantly. The circumstances themselves may not soon change, but we do.
When we yield our hearts to God, our hearts are changed. Our entire outlook changes. And as we press forward in Christ, our entire being is transformed. Peace replaces turmoil. Freedom replaces enslavement. Love replaces hatred. Compassion replaces resentment. Joy replaces misery.
God turns us away from all ungodliness -- but only as we choose. When we follow God, we do not become enslaved robots but we become willfully transformed into his very nature. God is not "I pretend," but "I am." God is truth. There is no lie in him. No insincerity. God is genuine. And thus we become as we turn our hearts to God.
It is all about freedom. Agency. Free will.
The choice is ours. What will we make of ourselves? What will we make of the world?
To whom will we yield our hearts? God? or to the arm of flesh; which gives Satan power to captivate and lead us down to hell; which is the residence of lies, insincerity, hatred, misery, bitterness, manipulation, and resentment?
God is more powerful than Satan. If we trust in God, Satan loses his claim on us. No power of evil can prevail against us so long as we are built on the rock of Christ.
What is that rock? It has much more to do with yielding our broken heart to God, who transforms our heart, filling us with the Holy Ghost, than it has to do with endless dogmas of religious tenets.
On an individual level, the temple of God is our body. God desires that he might reside with us, through his Holy Spirit, in our very midst. But we must be the ones to invite him in, that he might be the guiding influence in carrying out our particular mission in life.
On a collective level, God would that the entire planet become his temple, his abode, his footstool where he might walk and talk with us, along with all his holy angels, openly ministering to us. This is Zion. This is the kingdom of God on earth; heaven on earth; paradise; the millennial reign of Christ.
So here we are now, at the most critical juncture in the history of our planet. Wickedness prevails more than ever before; but the powers of righteousness are likewise expanding. The war for the souls of men is coming to a great climax, seen individually and as a society. Like that time that comes in an individual’s spiritual advancement, as a society we stand on the brink of casting Satan from us, that he might have no more power over the hearts of the children of men. He is not going to depart without putting up a tremendous struggle.
By trusting in the Lord with all our heart, might, mind and strength, we will be delivered. Zion will be established.
Hence the message of greater things is that God will be there for us to help us move forward in our advancement toward godliness, individually and as a society. The word "greater" denotes improvement. "Things" has reference both to the improved existence to which we aspire as well as to the means by which we get there: the words of life, made alive by the Spirit of God.
"In the beginning was the word..., and the word was God." THE WORD is the hallmark of greater things: words of holy writ and how they are used by the Lord.
God will give us greater light and knowledge as we improve in our godly walk. Like he nurtures an individual along, so does he nurture an entire civilization along. The more we advance, the more advanced understanding he can impart to us so that we might progress yet further. This is the idea of greater things.
That is the purpose of this web site.
The INTRO page gives a brief outline of the two major resources: (1) "PARALLELS" and (2) "ALPHABETICS" word and number studies.
The HOME PAGE, gives a general listing of contents of the web site, including the BOOKS, ESSAYS, and EDITORIALS which supplement the Parallels and Alphabetics studies.
Inasmuch as there are hundreds of documents on this web site, and this could be overwhelming, the "FAVORITES" page lists some of the best studies -- at least to start out with. The more weighty documents are not mentioned there. The weightiest of all are withheld from public view except upon honest inquiry. The reason much of these materials can be made public, though they contain highly sensitive information that could cause the weak to stumble, is that they are coded like a parable in metaphorical language. Those who are ready will receive that for which they are ready.
Though there is something here for everyone, most of the studies are advanced. Comparing scriptural understanding to school, most of these studies are on the graduate level. If this was a ski slope, most of the runs would be black diamond including some extreme skiing, though there are a few blue intermediate and green beginner runs as well, including a bunny slope. But because this site by very nature is geared toward greater things, the beginner and intermediate material is very limited.
Of all these studies, the one fairly brief essay that introduces the theme which is born out in most every study is "Will the Gentiles Also Look Beyond the Mark?" Another essay, which supplements that thesis is "The Law [Constitution] and the Word [gospel] of the Lord: Our Duty and Our Quest." These two summarize the plot of this latter-day high drama in which we are the main actors and in which the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. In ski slope jargon, these would be the main intermediate runs that traverse the slope, to and from which the more direct, advanced runs flow.
To use another metaphor, if you want to jump in the deep end, rather than tip-toe into these waters, a good initial splash is to read the Isaiah 28 = II Nephi 28 parallel. In the skiing metaphor, this would be an advanced run.
Because we are dealing with improvement, this "greater things" prospect is not designed to be an effortless process. Much is required on your part, not just in studying what is here, but in implementing the truths you obtain. How much you understand, and how much you integrate into your life is up to you. These resources are the ski slope, you are the skier. These materials are supplied as a resource to facilitate your progression. You are responsible for working out your own salvation. It is between you and the Lord. Enter at your own risk. This web site is here to help, not to do the work for you, and is specifically designed to require much on your part. Your transformation needs to be something which comes from your heart, willfully receiving and utilizing the power of God in your life.
That you may so choose is my humble prayer. Enjoy your stay and come back soon!
